Have fun. I'll put $20 on it you will blow those powder metal rods right out the side of the block. They were never designed to take that sort of power. Anything over 400-450 and they will disengrate. Heck, even stock they are blowing out the side of the block.

Have fun. I'd build a 4.7 over a hemi for that sort of power (more reliable motor IMO, just alot less power)

Eh, you could always just swap in a big block. More power potential, better durability, and probably a lot cheaper than a S/C kit.

With a supercharger you should be making eleventy billion horsepower... don't worry.

Sure it is. But then so are most honda motors, a toyota 3.4l, 429 ford etc.

almost all newer 2 valve per cylinder engines have hemi heads ... its the best way to get decent power from a 2 valve engine ...

the modern 4 valve engines use a design called "pentroof hemi" which is a dome with a flat top ... all 4v heads are better than the "hemi", but its expensive to build 4v V8īs ....

i feel a little sorry for chrysler, who has the "hemi" heritage ...

The rods aren't the problem, it's the pistons. A few supercharger manufacturers are not even going to come out with kits for the 5.7L HEMI, or they'll at least require replacing the pistons. The factory pistons have the top ring groove right at the top of the piston for emissions reasons (a lot of new engines actually are going to this piston design from what I've been told). This design leaves a very thin area around the edge of the piston and they crack at the first sign of detonation when in boost. Vortech is thinking of only bringing a "tuner" kit to market because of this. They basically will sell you components for you to build a kit, but not a kit for liability reasons and mandate that you go with aftermarket pistons. When the HEMI is supercharged with different pistons it screams though....

Boss 429 Also called the twisted hemi. the combustion chamber is not a perfect sphere and the intake and exhaust valves are offset not in line like a true hemi.

Correct about the pistons the ring is too high. Also i seem to recall they are cast pistons not forged and the epansion rate on a hemispherical piston over a flattop is significantly more with that also it need to be mentioned that it requires more clearance than a std flat top so when having the engine over bored be sure you get a shop that know hemi's or at least reads the instructions on the pisons and doesnt just ASSUME that chevy specs will work

Incorrect about the rods and crank. They already are handling over 500hp ....whit the pistons are changed out
