Here's a hint to make things easier (and it's what I'm gonna do)

First: build a FULL roll cage

Second: measure out for you fabric around said cage (I'm using a heavy canvas)

Third: Add snaps to your roll cage (that might look a bit hokey but what the hell) and make soft top around it so you don't have any ALUMINIUM shit to bend when you rub trees and shiat.

Wheel it and be 'DA- MAN like me:smokin:

Anyway about the only way to do it right the first time is build yourself some sort of framing and then measre and cut the fabric around that. Otherwise you'd better hope you're a good seamtress (or married one like I did ;) ) or you will be buying a lot of "Fuck-up" fabric. GOOD LUCK:nuke:

if you read my thread right, u would notice that i DO plan on makin it myself, i don't like paying to have other people make stuff. i did look around at websites and talked to other people who want soft tops fer travelers and came out dissatisfied. i don't plan on using aluminum since i don't know anyone i can borrow a TIG from, and i don't have a spool gun for my MIG for alluminum wire, and i like steel better, i was thinkin about 1" square tube for the frame. full cage idea is easy, but i wouldn't want to drill holes in the pipe to screw the snaps on. the only part i am woried about is attatching it to the windshield frame with a semi-leak proof seal.

High Traveler, you could probably get the "rail" that attatches to the windshield from from any good convertible repair shop, or simply buy a ScoutII bikini top & get those parts to boot. I too am planning on making one. A guy had emailed me some plans he drew up with different ways to make your plastic windows & get them to seal. If I can find it Ill throw it your way. Im gonna make a "windjammer" (JEEP term) for my Scout & after I decide if Im gonna Bob my scout or not make my halftop convertible. Right now Im just looking to get my D60's fitted up. Hell Ill sell you my Softop for $275, I need the money:D

it would still be cheaper just to make it myself.

FWIW, there are NO welds on my Bestop soft-top frame.

Well, aside from the door frame that's made of basically two pieces of angle to make an "L" with a rod that comes off the back to engage the front bow of the soft-top. The rod is welded on.

In any case.. you can use aluminum. Just bend a "U" shape for each bow. They attach to a bracket on the bed rails with a pivot pin.
