Did a search and it came back with 500 replies...I've broke both stock sides now running a TT and 285's...

Rovertracks...has a set-up, who's usin' it, and anybody broke one...
Great Basin's...got a call into Bill, not sure even if he has anything to offer...

anybody else...

this sucks...at least I could get the front shaft off, pull the out what was left and drive it home...

thanks

Here is the maxi-drive upgrade for the DII - which GBR should also sell.

Does Keith have a DII upgrade as well? From those axles it looks the DII has a semi-float front end, which would make it hard to fit longfields...

Thanks guys, I was mistaken, CVU is working on a DII set-up, doesn't have one yet...

No, he doesn't have anything for the DII yet. I think he is considering it.

really seems the only option is the maxi-drive stuff, and after talking with Bill Davis, that's not even worth the hassle...I guess I'm stuck with stock until someone comes out with something, or change the axle tubes...thanks guys...

can normal spindles (aka stub axles) not be adapted onto the DII axle casing? seems like you could weld a stock flange on there from a donor casing. i don't know how the DII tubes are made - just curious

Why not worth the hassle? It is maybe worth talking to Slunnie on the outerlimits board - he has the axles in the link above, fitted to this truck:

DISCOII (http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/PHP_Modules/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3663&highlight=axles)

And this is what happened to his stock axles, so far the MD axles and CV's have held up fine...

Couple of reasons...I spoke with Bill at GBR and he thinks it not worth the expense for what they are. I'm sure they well built, but when the guy who sells in the US says it may not be worth the expense I'll take his advice. The other problem is the expense, it could be close to 3k to get them here and I really can't justify spending that to the wife right now...

Both Kieth at CVU and Bill are working on D2 cv's, so I'm going to replace it with a stock cv (got a great deal), and save some cash and hopefully they'll be some options...

I used to say this about my first wife,,, I kept the Rover & the mods going & lost the wife.

Second wife is more understanding so far but we're only one drive shaft and a motor mount into the marriage

bolt-on != hardcore. ok - so I'll admit to being bolt-on :grinpimp: but the price was right, and I sold off my 35's to settle for 33's in an attempt to just get myself back on the trails.

the point is, you could have a much stronger axle there _now_ for a whole lot less than 3 grand. If i were in your predicament, i'd be looking to fab something or have something fabbed. at the extreme end, Greg Davis is putting in 60's on his DII. That doesn't exactly happen overnight! He's been working on it for some time -

I think you could find a middle ground without too much work. Adam Way has been running a D44 passenger-drop front with a home-fab 3-link quite well on a fully loaded rangie - I don't see why this wouldn't be a decent application for your DII.

There _ARE_ options out there - so stop whining about the lack of bolt-ons, and look for a solution! Besides, plunking down 3k for bolt-ons won't make the Mrs. any happier later vs. now. Get a plan together, and start lining up resources to make it happen - maybe it takes you a year to get it done. A bit of machining here, some help with welding there - slowly order your parts over time. That's the only way to get this shit done. With an attitude driven by expensive bolt-ons, you're going to be really dissapointed with wheeling as a sport in the long-term. I see people regularly plunk 20k, 50k or more into their rigs and you know what? They part them out within 6mos. Keep it simple, make it cheap, and focus on staying on the trail, and being an active member of the off-road community.

Not whining at all...if spending 3k would give me a long term solution, I'd spend it today. After talking with Bill at GRB, he's not sure that the maxi-drive stuff is the solution. I'm not looking to re-invent the D2 front end, just put sometime that will last longer than stock. I have a jeep that I'm middle of turning into a trail rig dana 44's, 4.88's, 40's so I really don't need another project right now...
