: This axle placement looks wrong!

Set this up to RE length's. To me the axle needs to go about 1 1/2 to 2" forward. What's your thought's? The top bump stop should be centered with the bottom bump stop correct?

Going from memory....when I helped out with a RE longarm install on a friend's TJ, we had to screw the joints almost all the way out to get the axle position to look decent. It started out about where yours is looking with their numbers so nothing else should be screwed up. Her joints are out almost all the way (enough thread left in for strength) and the Jeep handles and articulates fine, so I would say just go ahead and bring it out a bit....worst case you have to adjust it later. Going to look to see if I can find pictures here...

That is about right, when the arm swings up it swings on an arc. So when you stuff the suspension the springs will be straighten out. How much lift there? 8-9''

They are 4.5 springs

Yes, it looks off to me too.
Measure your wheelbase (center hub to center hub) Stock TJ's IIRC are 94 or 94.5 inches.

It's been a couple months since I did one but (looking at the install instructions on RE's page) I don't recall having problems after just following the RE instructions. Unhook the top (short) link, start the lowers at 37.5" (bolt center to bolt center) and adjust out to max of ~38". Do the same with the uppers but start at 15 7/8" and adjust to the desired pinion angle. I don't remember exactly what I adjusted it out to but I do remember moving it out a few turns and that I was more concerned about the axle being square than anything else, i.e. adjusting them out equally.

where the aforementioned numbers came from:

This kit is surprisingly easy to put together and it looks like you've got it all bolted up so you probably don't need these but here's some more detailed install instructions if you have other issues: http://rockcrawler.com/techreports/retjextreme/relift_plan.asp

I helped install one on a friend's jeep in Feb. She hasn't had any problems and she wheels the piss out of it almost every weekend. The jeep is coming into the shop that I now work at in a few hours so I can take measurements for ya. PM me soon if you want.

Some else said it but 2X on the axle will arch another inch or so forward when the suspension is loaded. It looks right to me. At least as right as a radius arm suspension can be on a SWB vehicle. :flipoff2:

Edit: Does this kit use the stock drive shafts? If so the axle would have to be further back in the wheel well to make up for the driveshaft length. This considering that an axle centered in the wheel well but further from the wheel well will be further from the tcase than stock.

Take your springs out, one side at a time, and compress the suspension to the bumpstops.
You'll see how far forward the axle moves at full stuff.

If nothing rubs, you can lengthen the arms a little.

On my shortarm MJ, the HD RE trackbar hits the diff just as it reaches full stuff.
That's perfect for me.

I think the upper control arms need to be extended out. I think there is too much caster.
