orbitcat 03-01-2002, 06:34 AM My area says Enhanced test w/o test only. So what does this mean?
ranger 03-01-2002, 07:25 AM You can blame all the yuppies driving around in SUVs, polluting the air, trying to close our trails.................:skull:
spudwrench 03-01-2002, 08:54 AM one word: DIESEL
i will never own anything that needs a smog check again!
60seriesguy 03-01-2002, 08:57 AM Hey, they may not have diesel emmissions testing right now, but they *will* eventually. Several states already test diesels, and it wouldn't surprise me if California implemented this in the near future.
spudwrench 03-01-2002, 09:15 AM yeah i figger i got a few years. then theres always 'classic' cars and motorcycles. i am fed up with the DMV and smog checks. why do i live in calif? i dont know.
Nate C 03-01-2002, 09:49 AM Fawkin California smog is bs...it should be what comes out the tailpipe, not what accessory bla bla bla is on my motor!!!
BTW, can i swap to a deisel legally in my 81 yota p/u???
welndmn 03-01-2002, 10:31 AM LOL CA has planned to this for about 6 years now, i think it will get rolling in 2003-2004 it still needs more work
Diesel is not far from being tested that have been making machine to test it for about 10 years now, the got the right machine last year (all other used to plug from all crap they spit out) last i heard they are trying to get the diesel testing machine to an affordable price like the BAR 97 (20-50,000) SO suck it up, Diesels will be tested probally in likr 2006-2008 its coming

Ahhh So buy low sulfur fuel and pass easily ;) Not like theres a lot of variables in how a diesel burns.
Kensoffroad 03-01-2002, 11:32 AM I am so glad I left Calif. & moved to Oregon! :flipoff2: Where I live I am out of the smog testing area. Of course Cali does get more of the sunny, warm days! :(

schuss 03-01-2002, 11:34 AM christ, cars are clean enough now, why don't they go after industry, who can actually afford the retrofits. Oh wait, that's right, I didn't give a mil to GW last year. Not that my state smogs anyway.....
Ten_Bucks 03-01-2002, 02:52 PM I just found out a couple of days ago that in South Lake Tahoe and in Amador County the California Smog laws don't exist. So if you have any relatives or friends that live in those places, register your vehicles at that address and you'll never have to smog your vehicles again.
hybrid 03-01-2002, 05:03 PM AZ already has a particle check for diesels, but that's all for now. It just makes sure you aren't burning oil, red diesel, or have bad injectors.
Low sulfur??? Is that the same as Diesel #2?

They dont advertise the sulfur content in diesel. But federal laws are reducing it. In europe the fuels already much cleaner than it is here, without a huge loss in performance. Basically yeah.. are your injectors good? have you radically BOMBd the engine and are you burning #2 instead of ag fuel
masterbeavis 03-01-2002, 09:55 PM I did discover that in some areas of CA you are not required to do smog checks if you live in certain counties. Of course the first idea that comes to mind is to "say" that you live in one of those areas. You would then only have to smog your vehicle on one of 2 ocasions, one is when you transfer a vehicle, the other is when it is initally registered. But of course doing this is *cough cough* illegal, so is registering your rig in another state and bringing/leaving it in CA. Eventually they will catch you doing this one. My buddy had a rig registered in Idaho. He moved to CA, got a CA Lic, kept his ID. Lic. and ID plates on his truck (but not on his other 2 cars, got CA plates for them). About FOUR years later the DMV caught on and made him change his plates.
