: inexpensive lift: Which one?
Camel Trophy 02-28-2002, 11:43 PM Hi. I want a lift for my Samurai. I do not really have too much money to spend on it. Which one is the least inexpensive? I am assuming a 1" lift. Is it easy to install? And how much? And what parts do I need to get also? Thanks for the replies.
Old Scout 02-28-2002, 11:48 PM WTF is up with your name! You drive a Sammy and you call your self Camel Trophy? Dude that's just messed up!
Camel Trophy 03-01-2002, 12:11 AM Oh, since you are the moderator for the Land Rover forum, you should know. But avearge folks would not know. I like the races that they have featuring Land Rovers in the tropics.
evilfij 03-01-2002, 12:38 AM I saw a zuk in the Uk with a rover body on it.
That was pretty cool and since the rover body is aluminium and that would be lighter maybe that would give you your 1in lift.
Ron
PS I just read this because it said last post by camel trophey and I thought you may have done something similar I will go back to the rover board now :)
mud-magnet 03-01-2002, 06:45 AM if you only want a 1" lift, get longer shackles.......flat stock about 1/4" thick........what would that be 10$.......cheep enough........
o yeah.......he has that name cause hes a NEWBIE:flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: J/K welcome NEWBIE:flipoff2:

He knows what the Camel Trophy is. He wants to know why someone who wants 1" of lift for his Mallurai is calling himself CAMEL TROPHY.
That's like me calling my self MASTER OF THE HAMMERS... With 1 locker and 33s.

There is nothing avearge about POR! Change your name DAN! :mad3:
Camel Trophy 03-01-2002, 10:57 AM It is important to note that the first Camel Trophy had Jeeps in the first competition. I think it was in 1981. Also the last Camel Trophy 2000. The vehicle of choice was a Honda CRV! My wife has a CRV as a grocery getter. So since I have a Honda CRV, I am entitled to my handle. They did not use Land Rovers all the time in the Camel Trophy. I have proof of that.
And, since I read Land Rover Magazines a lot, the Samurai which is still in production in Europe and in Asia, Samurais will race against Land Rovers. The Samuari is a very light vehicle and can overtake the heavier vehicles such as a Land Rover. An example, will be the Malaysian Rain Forest Challenge that they have every year. Some of the people who drove Samurais won against the people who drove Land Rovers.
Anyway, where can I get longer Shackles? That is the question.
Camel Trophy 03-01-2002, 11:01 AM Mud Magnet, where can I buy longer shackles? Do I go to Rocky Road, Petroworks, Calmini, Trail Tough, NCO? thanks
schuss 03-01-2002, 11:14 AM any of those places will have them.
Camel Trophy 03-01-2002, 07:09 PM This hanlde will be retired soon after this question.
I am goint to buy the RRO one. I just want to know if it is easy to install or not? Is it just take out the bolts and replace? Thanks
mud-magnet 03-01-2002, 07:14 PM don't spend that much at those places for shackles.........go to a local metal shop and get 1.75-2" wide, 1/4" thick flat stock, cut them 2" longer than stock, and drill two new holes, i'd never buy lift shackles......... but if you will....... i'll get you the exact mesurments if you want.......

mud-magnet 03-01-2002, 07:17 PM and yes, you take out the old bolts with a 9/16"s wrench and slide them out and put the new ones in, you have to take the weight off the springs first though.....

mint......mint........ hey camel dude.........change your name to "Mallurai".........:flipoff2: .......
Camel Trophy 03-01-2002, 10:45 PM I got some bigger tires so the lift would be a bit higher. I do not really go off roading too much or go on the trails.
Mud Magnet, I cannot do that machine shop type of stuff since I do not work on cars too much.
One last question, I see that they sell bushing also. Do I get those also or do I just use the old ones. I want to use the old ones but if I cannot, well I have to get them. Thank you for you reply. I appreciate it. :D
Camel Trophy 03-01-2002, 11:13 PM Here is a picture of a Camel Trophy Honda CRV vehicle. My wife has a stock Honda CRV. I drive it also. :

Which year was this fawker :flipoff: :flipoff: :flipoff:
Last I looked in 1999 Wayne Smith and Trent Leen won in their rangie on a disco frame. Wayne Smith and his father Mike won in 2000 in the same truck, and Steven Tjepkema and Steven Hudson won in 2001 in a different range rover.
I think you better get off your CRV and do some fawking research!
Ron
PS Zuks are fine trucks I am meerly flaming a fawking newbie. I normally don't get POed like this but Wayne Smith personally helped me make some decisions on mods to my rovers and this kinda crap like this from Camel Trophey is just really not cool.
Camel Trophy 03-02-2002, 12:21 AM You do not have to get hostile. There are a lot of vehicles in the Malaysian Rainforest Challenge. You get Nissian Patrols, Toyotas, etc. They would win also. I am not knocking a vehicle. It varies on who wins. Sometimes, Nissian wins or Toyotas takes first place. The Malayisan Rain Forest Challenge has many vehicles competing. It is not like Camel Trophy that one vehicle is there.
Land Rover Magazine said the Suzuki had the advantage because of the weight, 1999 or 2000 Malaysian Rain Forest Challenge. I read it. Suzukis finished in the top ten and Land Rovers also and Nissians also. There are like 30 racers there with different cars. So you get a variety of finishes. It is not like all Land Rovers or all Suzukis fill the top finishes. I am talking about what type of vehicles that finish the race and what there places are. Maybe Nissian finished in the top ten or Toyotats. I am talking about places in which they finished and what vehicles they are. If you think all Land Rovers finished in the top ten, then that is your opinion
Mud Magnet, I am not coming back to this thread so you do not have to reply. I just wanted to know what I should get. I will ask RRO about that. I think I sould stay away from here. Thanks for your tips.
Camel Trophy 03-02-2002, 01:13 AM "An example, will be the Malaysian Rain Forest Challenge that they have every year. Some of the people who drove Samurais won against the people who drove Land Rovers."
So you want me to do research okay I will. I do not have the standings of all the vehicles but I do know this, out of all the vehicles in the race, not all Land Rovers finished in the top ten. You are saying that the top ten finishes are like this in the Malaysian Rain Forest Challenge:
1. Land Rover
2. Land Rover
3. Land Rover
4. Land Rover
5. Land Rover
6. Land Rover
7. Land Rover
8. Land Rover
9. Land Rover
10. Land Rover
I think you are wrong. You have to put some Toyotas or Nissians or Suzukis or Jeeps or another makes in there for the top ten. I know for sure that not all Land Rovers finished like that. Some Toyotas or Nissians beat Suzukis and Land Rovers. I am talking not about first place. I am talking about vehicles fininshing. But you are saying that all Land Rovers beat everything out there, Toyotas, Nissians, Jeeps, Suzukis, Mistibishis, etc
evilfij 03-02-2002, 01:13 AM You said that the the suzukis "Won" over rovers. That would indicate a first place finish.
You said nothing about top ten or any of that crap.
Last three years fawker
:flipoff: :flipoff: :flipoff: :flipoff: :flipoff:
So stop being a :rainbow: newbie
Ron
Camel Trophy 03-02-2002, 01:17 AM I did my research.
evilfij 03-02-2002, 01:18 AM "I think I sould stay away from here"
ding ding ding ding ding . . .
we have a winner! :p
Ron
PS once again my sincerest appologies to the zuk people. This guy just really ticked me off. I am actually eye balling a zuk up the street from the rover shop. The zuk's body is shot but it is on 33 boggers and I have a surplus of rover bodies. i would get it but I have some other projects on tap.
Camel Trophy 03-02-2002, 02:15 AM "An example, will be the Malaysian Rain Forest Challenge that they have every year. Some of the people who drove Samurais won against the people who drove Land Rovers."
You got ticked off of this? If you have the real and official vehicle standings of the Rain Forest Challenge, you should post it on all the vehicles in the race. You should get 1999 or 2000 when Suzuki took fourth place.
Let me give you a imaginary tropical rainforest race. Lets say, Jeeps, Nissians, Toyotas, Kias are there.
The winners are this in the top ten.
1. Toyota
2. Nissian
3. Toyata
4. Kia
5. Nissian
6. Toyota
7. Nissian
8. Toyota
9. Jeep
10. Toyota
"An example would be the Malaysian Rain Forest Challenge that they have every year. Some of the people who drove Nissians won against the people who drove Toyotas."
I assume you do not agree with this statement and you have the right to be mad? Tell me why this is not true?
Camel Trophy 03-02-2002, 04:31 AM To reinforce the image of other makes of vehicles, I would like to see an official list of all the vehicles and their places in the Malaysian Rainforest Challenge. All the years that the race took place, I want to see it. If you can get it. That would be nice. I respect all makes of vehicles. They all have their good points about them. I do not think that other vehicles are inferior or are better.

Umm...because it's improper english??????? :flipoff2:
There is only 1 winner, only 1 person "won". You could say "Some of the Nisans (not Nissian) beat some of the Toyotas" but you are ignoring the glaring fact that in that example a Toyota won.
You know..reading this thread does show me that your probably in the wrong place. POR is for relatively hard-core wheelers with thick skin, I'm not sure your either
Camel Trophy 03-02-2002, 12:41 PM I am leaving this board. I just want to say something. Well it is it is a heavy weight fight. Mike Tyson vs Lennoix Lewis. Imagine Lewis is the winner of this outcome. Based on your correct English, I would have to say Lennoix Lewis beat Mike Tyson. And that means that I cannot never say Lennoix Lewis won against Mike Tyson because that is incorrect English. Geez, if I belived everything a person says, my life would be a mess.
I am not coming back. You can post are your replies here you Land Rover people. Do not waste your time because I am not coming back to read it.
Rockrat 03-02-2002, 03:03 PM Hey bud no reason to go off with your tail between your legs over a differnce in words or oppinions not everybody is going to agree with everything that is said here so lets put this thread to to rest and go by some flat plate 1.75 w and 2" longer than your stock shackles and put 2 1/2" hole 's in them done an Hour's worth of work!
TNToy 03-02-2002, 05:09 PM Mallurai go bu-bye? :( :( :(
I kinda liked him. Confused people are funny.
I think I just figured out what my liscense plate will be if I ever get custom plates.
I think I know who this Camel Trophy guy is..... He goes by PIAA_lites on the ORC boards. Doesn't have his profile filled out over there either.
He's the guy that uploads pictures of shirts in the TEST forum and links them to his ebay auctions!:clown: :clown2:
Here he is, with e-mail address....
