In my opinion the 347 is only worthwhile if you have packaging/weight constraints. I will probably eventually go with a 347 in my Mustang but that is because I want to keep the weight down as much as possible. In a 4x4 you can usually work around that so it only makes sense to use the 351W since it will be both cheaper and simpler. A 347 is really pushing the limits of a production 302 block so reliability may be an issue. On the other hand you can buy a completly assembled 347 short block from Ford so that may address some of those issues. Still, I think a 351W is the better choice for a 4x4.

Fist of all go read Camo's sticky. :D
Second of all you say post some info but you need to do that in the first place. What will it be used for? Price a consideration? What do you want to accomplish? Yeah, things like that would be good. :smokin:

ok how's this:
want engine that will have ~400hp and ~400ft-lbs. last ~100k miles, fit in a sub $4k budget, be able to idle all day long in the rocks but be able to rev for occasional use in the dunes and street dragging. To be used in a 4000-5000lb 4x. May be running SEFI. Will be replacing a 302.

(maybe not exactly what the thread was started for -but will get some opinions rolling)

351W. Cheap, readily avail, butt loads of bolt on HP avail (check with the 3rd gen 'stang crowd), reliable, pretty much everything you're asking for.

My f150 has a 351. Granted it's stock, but has 118K on it and not even a remote sign of getting tired. Don't know what it's spec'd at, but out of the box it has substantial hp and torque.

my $0.02 worth.
