i'm shooting for about 76-78" with my current buildup but ... it all really depends on where you wheel and what kind of wheeling you do. if you go with 89" you'll have a kinda tough time ever getting it on a trailer if you needed to.

89" is wide!!! i have 81" and it is wide for a cj. that is running 62" wide axles , 38.5 sx's on 15x11" rims with 3.5" bs

yea my front axle is 71" (out of a 99 Dodge)

3.75" bs on a 10" would make 83.5" + 16" wide tires would be 89.5"

7" bs on a 9.5" wheel (hummer) would make 76" + 16" wide tires would be 82"

my TJ is 78" now

The Mantis (my little green beastie) is 91" overall, and bumping up to about 92 soon (front axle is gonna be wider after the 60 swap).

Ummm..you're all a little bit off.

Track Width is the measurement from the Center of the left wheel to the center of the right wheel..NOT the overall width;)

"track: Front track is the distance between the center of the left front wheel and the center of the right front wheel when the vehicle is set to its normal ride height and wheel alignment specifications. Rear track is the distance between the center of the left rear wheel and the center of the right rear wheel. They are not always the same"

Lookin' cool...

Finding the downside to a huge track width--note the rear end straddling the rock (oops).

Scout Dude, you're right about track width actually being center to center, not outside to outside... but outside to outside is easier to measure.

As for being a little bit off... I must be closer to center than usual, if I'm down to only "a little bit" off. :)

79" outside to outside with 37 x 12.50 MTR's and 10" MRT beadlocks.

my front axle will be 62" wide and be running 15x10" wheels with about 4" backspacing (most likely a little less) so track width will be about 64" with 37x12.50's so overall width should be about 76" a little more if you measure the sidewall bulge. I think this is perfect width for my toyota.

I need the same info... I am ready to order my beadlocks...
I am running full width 60 under my tj, I am concerned alittle about width. I would like to keep it some what legal! I am going to run 39.5x15x16.5 tsl's. Has anyone did a custom backspacing? What was your backspacing? I am going to run the 9.75 wheels so most beadlocks will widen the wheel alittle unless I have them turned down. Any info would be a great help! I am really wanted to wheel again!!!
thanks

Depends on how much you want to "suck" your width in.

Hummer wheels are 16.5's and 9" wide like you are refering to. They have beadlocks and they have 7" of backspacing.

That will keep you stuffed in and somewhat legal. If you have high steer arms you will need to deal with clearance issues with hummer wheels.

Other than that, all 16.5 beadlocks are fully custom so find the backspacing you want, order the rings and have at it.

so rockstomper and Yellow CJ

other than straddeling the rocks any other problems ?

i would think there is more stability in being wider...i saw a hummer take a line that surely would have put my Jeep on its side (was 78" wide). he walked it and didnt even look off camber

ps just sent in $$$ for my Star Thanks Guys...

There are a few times where it has made things a little tight, but I love the stability I got from it. I moved the rear back 9-10", and went from narrow CJ axles to full width's. Definetly reduces the pucker factor, and lets you try the interesting lines. I love the width, and Texas doesn't have fender laws:flipoff2::flipoff2:

WHY????

In competion the cones are getting tighter. Competions are leaning toward a more athletic vehicle. Wider is more stable, but sometimes it leaves you with only one line. The Hammers an 80" overall width is perfect.
