'73 Scout II 30 with drum brakes, would like to implement Waggy 44's with disc. The steering arm goes the opposite way of the Heep, does the gear need to be changed, or just the arm? Help the IH nuubie please.....

In the Alamo...

in the basement...

Sorry, wrong question.

It says to turn the pitman arm around.

What the hell does that mean?

not that easy - why not run it how it is supposed to be? Or run a toyota box.. You can swap inner parts but..

wait, you have a scout and you want to swap axles - what does the box or the arm have to do with it??

clarify please..

The steering is different, Brandon. I just looked under the Scout and the arm is about 14" long and points to the driver's shackle. On the Heep, it is opposite and only 6" long. I just don't want to get a conundrum and be stuck with those axles. I would much rather just find a 44 Scout disc brake front and be done with it.

run the waggy pitman arm too...;)

and the box is in a different spot - what's your point? I've ran em both, but I still don't see how changing axles means changing boxes. Now if you want to change boxes that's one thing but I don't see why you need to. You can run hi-steer with the scout II box no problem.

I still have no clue what the question is.

With the pitman arm forward the box is mounted back with it backward the box is mounted forward. Neither have anything to do with the axle. Push pull vs crossover do.

I ran the Scout II box with the waggy pitman arm on my toyota. Then I swapped it for a toyota box which mounts similiar (so does an F150 box) but the arm goes the other way.

You can't just swap the arm around on a scout box or you'd go left when you turn right etc..

Clarify what your point is and I think I can help - I've been through every type of box there is ;)

What kind of rig are we talking about?

A '73 Scout II. Drum brakes and a 30 suck. SO, I got 44's front and rr off a Waggy. I would imagine the steering linkage, length is different? If I gots to change boxes, this could turn into another project...... I have enough stuff on jackstands.....

Why *imagine* when you can look at it yourself and *know* whether things are the same length?

Look, if you are really that worried about steering ratios but can't figure out the ratio mathematics of the geometry, just put the Waggy pitman arm on the Scout box (facing forwards, of course), sling the waggy front axle under there, and connect the two with a drag link, and everything will be hunky-dorey. Am I missing your question? I don't want to come across as an A$$...

you can run a rope between the two if you want LOL

Yea, your question is still as clear as mud ;)

Maybe you should just find a Scout dana 44 and make things simpler. Besides that Waggy rear axle probably has an offset diff.

I am kind of lost here. All I see is mud - and thats me.

i pulled a Dana 44 out of a 1976 scout II and dropped it under my rig. i also did a few other changes but the swap was way easy. since it bolts right under.

I'll come off and an ass, but so what.

Remove old axle
Bolt in new axle
Did you check your new caster???
Hook up daglink from steering box arm to arm on axle.

Done.

Opps, does the ratio seem a little off, not what you want? Swap the LONG SII pitman arm for the shorter waggy unit... now the ratios are closer to what they orginaly were.

Done. The mechanics are the same, the waggy just has its steering box in a different spot compared to the SII. Your reading too much into all of this. Just do it.

Or, if your not going over 32" tires or so, just leave the D30 in there and put discs on it. The Waggy stuff will bolt right on, or you can swap the waggy 6-lug hub/rotor for a ford F150/Bronco hub/rotor and keep the Scout bolt pattern and not have to mess with the rear (or the gears in the front)....

Good God dude...why are you being such an ass....

I mean come on...can it be that hard to bolt on another axle with my super ninja chit chat black text skillz that killz...

Ok Mr Rustoleum White, Yer not an ass, I'm just a chicken shi*. Apparently, I should just swap the freakin' axles and stop sniveling about steering the damn thing. Didn't want a complicated swap, maybe I read into it too much. Hmmm... finding a Scout axle to swap... cheap.. wouldn't that be the deal??

Thanks for the advice anyway. Ass......
