I know alot of you have trimmed your rocker panels flush with the bottom of the cab and bolted up 3 or 4" angle iron. how did you go about the cross memeber-type stiffeners that are welded to the underside of the floor? grind them off to a certain point? plasma cutter? thanks, Matt

I cut mine last weekend. If you cut even with the bottom of those cross members you end up with room for about 2-3" angle iron. I am going to weld some rectangular stock between the cross members to help distrubute the load across more of the body. The wrinckle in the rocker above the cut in the pic is where the floor comes in. If you cut clear up to that line I think you could only use like 1 or 1.5" angle iron or you would cover up the door opening.

I got to test mine out for the first time this weekend being cut . Very nice. I did manage to whack them pretty hard a few times with no dents to the angle iron or the body.
I LOVE it!

We are building our tubs with the rockers cut to the floor and useing 1" angle 1/4" thick. They take a pounding and keep coming back for more! I wouldn't go back for nothing.....:flipoff2:

here is what BigRedFJ40 is talking about. I have hit hard enough to take out fillings, and it just makes me laugh every time.

OK, that picture sucks, but you get the basic idea. A grinder will take back the rib far enough. Ther will still be some visible for you to smash up later :D :D
Mine are flat now.
I cut about 3" off of mine all the way up to the floor crossmember and I used 2.5" angle iron.

Trust me.....those cross member thingys will flatten out after a few good shots. Dan (Rabid) and I have the same setup and like he said, you will lose all the fillings in your teeth before they bend!:D :flipoff2: :D
I did the 1/4 inch angle iron (bolted to the body)thing for years, and it worked well. I knew eventually a big rock and the right weight distribution would find the weakness in this design. After high centering on a huge boulder with the rig leaning and all the weight on one side the rocker plate(along with the body) folded under. I now have cut the rockers up a couple of inches and fabbed sliders out of 2x4 3/16 tube, angled and capped the ends(to match the angle of the front and rear wheel wells and tied them into the frame with 1.5 sch40. I was able to tie the front cage mounts into the tubing also. The bars extend slightly, and keep things from making contact with the body when you're on your side, and they won't fold or bend. Requires welding/fabbing and alot more work than angle iron, but you will only do it once
Just my .2
Good luck:beer:

I cut mine off even with the floor support. Used 3 x 4 angle iron, and the 4 side rests against the floor support on the underside. Cut the fender off to match and used 3/8" bolts to attach it to the tub. Now the body mount support is all banged up, so it's getting cut down and some 1/4 plate will be fabbed to go from the rocker (angle iron) to the frame rail.
