going rate for a dana 60 front

ok this is a little newbie so i posted here. is $1000 the going rate for a dana 60 front? i know theres all these stories about how someone got one for ten bucks from a los angelous junkyard but i mean for real.

If every bearing and seal on the axle needs replaced. King pin or ball joint? Open knuckle? locker? Gears?

You can find a pretty decent one for 1000.

I paid 1500 for a running truck with a 60/14 bolt, TH400, NP205, running 350 And a steel flatbed thats in good shape.

In your area, yes. Ford(HP&DS drop) will be a bit more than that.
Remember your not in an area where every neighbor is a farmer w/5 old farm trucks behind the barn.

sometimes you can find them for less, like one that has been taken apart and the owner changed their mind/ran out of money, etc. But that $1000 is a good idea. I'd spend a little more to get one just so I don't have to replace all seals, bearings, etc. Some that you see for cheaper are rust buckets, so be careful and get pics.

probably get one out of a m1009 or 8 (forget which one is the truck) with 4.56 gears

I take it that the king pin ones are worth more than the ball joint ones?

I thought they were almost all open knuckle?

well, seems as though the going rate is almost always higher at a yard rather than someone selling it out of their backyard. I paid 750 for a '92 dodge D60 that just needs gear lube and calipers/pads. and got a free 14bff that needs a rebuild. a buddy got a chevy one for about half that, though, I did have to pick my nuts up off the ground after loading them into back of the truck - them sumbitches ain't light. :grinpimp:

almost everyone agrees that kingpins are better than balljoints. the last time I checked w/ boyce they wanted around $2,500, +shipping, for a chevy D60F. :laughing:

I just got one basically for free, another I got for $85, then one for $40, HP for $100 and $125, and then a whole truck for $100. The most I paid for one was $500, and that one I have in my 89. I got that from a yard, and knew what they had. It was missing the hubs/rotors/brakes. Pretty much needed to be all gone over, though I was gonna do that anyway. I think I have a line on some more, military ones for a couple hundred I think. The kingpins are stronger and easier to crossover steering on, the reason they go for more. Also can get two newer style HPs for a couple bucks each I think. They are for sale if interested. An 89-90 and a ball joint, a 93 IIRC.
