The brakes on my 2001 Cherokee are terrible and they were just done on Saturday. The pedal feels firm and proper but I have a hard time stopping the vehicle. If I remember correctly the brakes on my last Cherokee (also a 2001) were just as bad. It almost seems like the rears aren't doing anything. I've drive 5 ton trucks that seemed to stop quicker. What's the deal?

theyre just too small....

You should try and stop a 35 with those breaks! I give myself plenty of room for that!

Now imagine the same pieces of shit in a Grand Cherokee. Yeah, welcome to my world. Does anyone know of some rotors that won't warp? Maybe if I wasn't using Autozone lifetime warranty pads.......

Yeah but I have put thousands of miles on Grand Cherokees and they stop fine. My Jimmy stops so well compared to the Cherokee that when I drive it right after the Cherokee I find htat I am almost going through the windshield. Granted the my Jimmy has disc brake and so does my Explorer but even when I had 36" tires on the Explorer I could stop in a way shorter distance. The Cherokee brakes suck so bad that I sometimes find I overshoot the stop line even though I am pushing the brakes quite firmly.

The brakes are sufficient but the power booster is two small on the XJ,MJ,ZJ models. TJ,YJ's all stop better in my opinion and they have different boosters.

I drive one on 34's and I think they work fine. But that may also be because I'm used to driving a 4 corner drum eb. What about swapping a disk brake 8.8 in the rear?

I used to have horrible brake fade and never stopped well in my 95 xj. I noticed a HUGE difference now that I am using the ceramic pads from NAPA. They are outrageously priced at like $100 something but I feel they were worth it. I didnt even pay the $100 for them I got upgraded for free after napa tore up my rotots while turning them and I still think they are worth it. I agree it doesnt feel like the back is doing anything at all.

Those of you saying that it feels like the back is doing nothing need to check your adjusment. Those rear brakes have the worst self adjusters.

hell i aint had no problems with my brakes. i think it has something to do with the fact that im running disk brakes all the way around. i just swapped in the axles out of an 01 wj. i also bought a better booster and larger capacity master cylinder and replaced everything after i broke my rear axle playing a little hard. i was told that the stock booster was just a bit weak for disks and if i was going to do it right id need the larger master. it might help im running 4 piston calipers, ceramic pads, and stainless rotors.
