I have done the swap on a 89 F350 with 95 powerstroke parts

The tranny is a ZF 5 speed, and the 351 trans wont work

you need a ZF5 speed from and truck with a 460. each ZF5 has a different integrated bellhousing for each block (300, 351, 460 etc.) it shouldnt be too difficult to find a transmission to swap this back.

The technical name for it is a Mazda ZF S5-42 5-speed, or Mazda ZF S5-47 5-speed. The S5-42 had an input torque rating of 420lb-ft and the S5-47 had an input torque rating of 470lb-ft. I believe both were available behind the 460's, with the ZF S5-47 coming in in the later years of production.

It ain't no stinking Mazda.

ZF is the maker.

Maybe I'm wrong here (wouldn't be the first time), but I thought that the ZF trannys were from a division of mazda, IDK.

NO. ZF makes their own trannies. They also make AWD trannies

ford trucks came with mostly mazda transmitions but the lucky ones got the zf built. zf trannies have a pto on the side, a granny low, and angled ribbing. the mazda has ribbing that is at 90 degrees to the tranny.

The F150 was the only full size Ford truck to get the Mazda 5 speed, everything else got the ZF

The mazda M5OD-R2 was found in F-150's and F-250's, behind 300's and 302's

the ZF was only in F-250's and F-350's, behind 351's, 460's and 6.9/7.3's
However, there was some very rare F-250's with a 300 in them that had a ZF in them.
I've heard of two of them, and one is in my driveway.

If its's a 351W and a 5spd, it's a ZF. It doesn't matter what chassis it's in.

i thought the bolt patterns were the same for the 300 351 and 460.

300, 302, & 351W are the same bell pattern & 460/429/400/351M are the same pattern.

It's a 88' F-250, LD, bare bones model, ex. railroad truck.(I got the whole truck for $275)

The other one I've heard of was a guy out in oregon, same deal, 88' F-250, LD strip model.

FWIW, my buddy also has one in a 91' bronco, but he swapped it in..
went from a 302/E4OD, to a 351/ZF..
That bronco flat out hhaaauuulllsss..

i believe when they went to the zf 6 it was in 98, and they had already stopped making the 302/352/460 line of motors and moved from manuals to strictly auto much like chevy has done. although, you may beable to find the manual that they put behind the new V10, i really dont know much about fords new line of trucks.

The ZF6 came about with the superdutys in 99. Guys have put them into earlier trucks though.

Cool deal on that truck Jrod-13!
