Supposedly they are out of a 1969 Wagoneer with a Buick 350. I'm not a Jeep guy so don't flame me if that's a bogus combo.
Anyway the TH400 definitely has the BOPC bolt pattern. What I need to know is what the output shaft is. Spline count and stickout past the TH400 case. TIA.

Spline count is 32. I don't know the exact stickout, but its a couple inches.
It has the buick nailhead pattern

I can't get to my spare TH400 right now but on memory I'm going to say the output shaft sticks out 4 or 5 inches. Ben W was right on the spline count.

Nailheads don't use the BOP pattern.

You're both right - sorta. The TH400's that jeep used with the Buick 350 (and buick 225 in the commando) were leftover nailhead TH400 cases used with a 1" adaptor ring that converted the nailhead pattern to BOP or there was also a ring for AMC.
To answer the original question, the TH400 used with the Dana 20 adaptor has the same output shaft and stickout as a 4wd Chevy Th400.

No kidding. I didn't know that. I wondered why they didn't just give them BOP cases.

I have this same combo (th400/20) and was wondering what motors will the tranny bolt to without the AMC adapter? Also, what will I need to get rid of the 20 and bolt an NP203 in it's place? Thanks for the info.

Without an adaptor ring, it will bolt to a Buick Nailhead - the later of the 2 styles.
You need a different adaptor for the 203. Remove the Th400 to D20 adaptor, put it in a box and I'll dispose of it for you ;)

They were also used in Jaguars, Rolls Royces and some BMW's. Kinda neat idea to have a short adaptor ring and a somewhat universal Tranny.

I'm guessing it wouldn't be too difficult to make an adapter ring to fit just about anything.

4", same as the EARLY 4wd TH400 and the short-shaft 2wd TH400's, but the output shaft on the one mated to the D20 had an O-ring, which I don't know if it would be on other applications with the same stickout.
Same transmission and bellhousing adapter was also used on the Jeepsters/Commandos with the Buick-design V-6. That adapter ring can also be used on Pontiac and Olds engines, if you grind away the portion of the bellhousing adapter that would interfere with the starter nose (it's on the other side from the Buick starter).
I suppose you could fabricate any adapter, as long as the bellhousing pattern didn't interfere with the Nailhead pattern.
