: Mounting problem with bender
lsloth 06-13-2005, 07:47 PM I have ordered my bender and it should be here early next week but I can not find a good way of mounting the stand to the cement floor. I have gone by homedepot and lowes and all of their mounting systems into cemet require a bolt to be sticking out after the install. I am needing to mount the bender in the middle of the shop so I would like something when the bender is not inuse there is nothing sticking out. Does anyone know what this by called or where I can get it online?
mountain4x4 06-13-2005, 07:57 PM You could drill 4 big holes into the concrete, then cement or epoxy some steel tube thats been threaded on the id into the holes, and bolt the base down. Maybe leave the bolts in there when not in use so the threads dont get trashed. You could also put some barbs on the od of the tube so it doesnt rotate when bolting the bender base down.
Theres probably some commercial threaded insert you can drive into concrete, but I don't know about it...
TJ Ken 06-13-2005, 08:00 PM Go back to home depot & get some "Red Head" concrete anchors(1/2" bolt). I know Red Head is the manufacturer name, but i'm not sure about the "concrete anchor" part.
Either way, I know they'll have them...that's where I got mine from.
Once installed these anchors use bolts to hold them down & are left flush after you remove the bolts.
For the 1/2" bolt you'll need a 5/8" (masonry) bit, IIRC. You can rent this bit from Home Depot along with the hammer drill you'll need.
The anchor packaging will tell you what size bit to use
It's pretty simple chit....just don't go crazy with that hammer drill....It's a lot of fun :D
You can easily drill too deep :grinpimp:
lsloth 06-14-2005, 07:38 AM Cool thanks guys, I will go on my search for the Red Head.
Red Head's just a brand name. I used Red Heads to anchor my steel building baseplate to the concrete but it was threaded rod that protrudes. But yeah, what you want is out there, I've got a whole coffee can of "flush-mount" anchors at home but I'm not certain who made them. I do seem to recall seeing what you need at HD.
steveh 06-14-2005, 09:28 AM I think I used these from Simpson. But Home Depot carries the same thing from Hilti, Hilti just costs more for the name ...
I picked up mine at OSH, around $15 with the masonanry Drill bit and the tool to drive them in. They are nice, nothing sticking up when the Bender is put away.

Scott@Rockstomper 06-14-2005, 09:51 AM I keep wondering why not just sink a receiver hitch vertically into the floor, and put a small metal-plate cover over the hole when not in use.
Since my bender is hydro and on wheels, I haven't bothered messing with it, but it seems like an easy way to get a really stable mount.
2000PRE 06-14-2005, 10:03 AM If you get the 'Red Head' flush anchor bolts, make sure that you pick up the installation tool that you need to install them. I bought my flush mount anchors about two months ago, but just got around to installing them, and come to find out you need a special tool. Went back to HD and they don't carry the install tool, checked a couple of other HD and not one had it, so I don't know what I am going to do now.
Vu14TJ 06-14-2005, 10:38 AM All you need for the "special tool" is a small rod or small bolt to fit down into the anchor once it's in the ground. Then give the rod or bolt or whatever a few good whacks with a BFH and your set.

I bolted my reciever down w/ red heads, its outside the shop, mount stays, most of the stand and bender go inside. :)
Now, there is a plate and about 3" tube sticken out of the parking spot in front, but the nice little old lady landlord hasnt said anything, and it keeps ricers from parking in my only outside spot.
works great.

Those are easiest.
I had my bender mounted within 20 minutes.
Drilling, anchor mounting, and testing...
Hammer Drill :)
