I'm currently mounting chev rear springs up front in my fullsize chev, when I looked at the rear mounting eye which now sits 8 inches back from stock I realized it would be easy to fabricate a hinged shackle arrangement, my only concern is when the shackle extends it lowers the rear of the spring and causes the pinion to point downwards, has anyone done this and did it create a problem?

Your right
That’s why you have to “LINK” it when you do mods like that.

I have something similar. I run revolvers on my shackle reversal. The only problem I have run into is when you are on something really steep and the front axle decides to drop on both springs it will make the pinion drop down pretty hard, but atleast on my setup its not causing any problems. If your flexing the pinion shouldnt move that much because even though one side is forcing the pinion down the other side is pulling it up. On the other hand. I like it because it streches the axle out further and keeping the front end down and reaches further up the hill (possibly over a rock) and makes me feel more stable and able to run up steep stuff.
Oh yeah. Make sure you have a really long slip in your driveshaft! I run a square so thats not a problem for me :flipoff2:

I agree with the above, my friend has this on his yj, when first done his drive shaft would pull out constantly!!!!
Good luck with the project

the heck with it, I decided to go simple first try around, straight shackles, not like it won't flex enough anyways. maybe I'll trick it up a bit on next winters rebuild

What length rear springs are you using? Are you moving the front mounts forward to keep the wheelbase and approach?Blazin:rasta:
