Well, I have a 1994 6.5TD suburban...in sig...and am in the market for a new truck. What I would like to get is a 1997 12V cummins 4x4 nv4500. However, my dad (I'm 20) has a different plan. I will be paying for nearly all the truck, but he still has a lot of say.

He wants me to get a bone stock chevy silverado because of the new employee discount they are giving everyone, they can be found cheap.

I would like the ram, seeing as I can find one pretty loaded, 4x4 for around $11,000 less (correct me if I am wrong). Even if the mileage is higher 150,000 or so, that motor could outlast me.

I do not do a ton of towing, but would possible be towing my bronco every month or so. Can I justify buying a Cummins ram with this? On top of that, I have driven a diesel since my first car and my dad has had one since I can remember.

thanks in advance, if I am making the right decision, I just need some ammunition against him..hahah

Dude, it's your money, your truck. New trucks are nice and all but they aint cheep, your still not going to get a great deal on a diesel chevy (maybe 27 grand for a single cab, 2x4, stick if you find it, no options WT). if your looking at 3/4 ton gassers you'll still be spending a pretty penny, i know at the dealer i work at we have a couple nicely equiped 2500hd 4x4 extended cab short boxes w/ 6.0's power windows/locks, xm, and a fair amount of other shit for 29. If your talking 1/2 tons we have a 4x4 5.3 wt with a couple options for 20.

I say buy what you want, new chev are expensive, buy a truck you want that will fit your needs, older trucks are definetly cheeper, parts are usually a little cheeper, less complex. I'd say find a nice cummins or powerstroke that you like that's a happy medium, under 100k, and enjoy the smaller payments but lack of a warenty.
