View Full Version : The Dodge gets HID lights.

Since the headlights in my Dodge seem to flat out suck, I decided to add some extra light. What better way than to put in some sick HID lights in the factory fog light cut outs?

HID lights are just sick. They blow away anything else out there, and these particular units only use 35 watts! They have an external ballast that needs to be mounted out of site, but the lights themselves are very small and compact. I am sooooooo stoked about getting these things with all the twisty mountain roads I drive. I literally can't believe the difference!

Oh yeah, you can get 'em at Roundeyes.com (http://www.roundeyes.com) :cool2:

Writeup on it's way...

HID's are the shit, no doubt but $$$........ I have had good luck running after market High Wattage Replacement Bulbs (http://www.polyperformance.com/shop/product.php?productid=1808&cat=550&page=1). For 40 bucks its like a sore dick, you can't beat it.

I tried replacement bulbs once in a car and couldnt tell a difference other than a blue tint to the light which looked real purdy, but didn't do squat as far as improving the lighting. Maybe I tried the wrong brand:confused:

To be honest, I can't remember. How high can you go without having to worry about the factory wiring?

80/100 is max. In some app's its actually pushing it but I have had good luck with them.

Also check the voltage at your headlights with the lamps on.

I've heard stories of some fairly signifigant voltage drop over factory wiring.

I wouldn't go higher than factory watts without using a relay harness.

can ya share some more, like what kit you used, and can you run them against oncoming traffic without being one of those annoying yo-yos?

Just so everybody know this thread is not about HID headlights. Lance put a set of Roundeyes HID FOG lights on his truck. These lights are really bright and cant be used for everyday driving. I think I remember him saying that in his full lenth write up.

Now flash forways 1.5 years and I have HID's in my factory headlight housing. I got it second hand new from a DTR member for $170 shipped. Its the GP Thunder kit as sold on www.hid-lights.com for $225. I also have a set of H1 HID bulbs to go in my possable future ebay projectors headlight housings.

The regular Sliverstar suck ass...dont bother wasting your $$$ on them. It sounds like the new Silverstars seem to be better.

i got the balasts and wiring for nothing (from a salvage vehicle), but im sure any standard kit would work. i got some bulbs (9005 style) from someone on ebay (just search hid bulbs and youll get a bunch of hits).

the fog lights on the superdutys are adjustable, but i have found that stock they are pretty low. my normal headlights are above the fogs. its just that now the fogs light up so much more i dont really need the regular headlights.
