Thinking of welding the spider gears in the front Dana30 that I'm swapping into my MJ and was wondering since the Dana30 I'm swapping in has a vacuum disconnect (like the YJ, would I be able to just swap out the vacuum disconnect thingie with a Posi-Lock (cable actuated disconnect thingie) and be able to run the Posi-Lock unlocked for normal trail riding and lock it in for the tough stuff.
Has anyone tried this? Did it work the way I'm thinking it will???

Do a search. This has been discussed several times recently.

I'll give you the gist though: Yes, it works as a poor man's OX somewhat. Unlike the OX though, it won't be an open diff when disengaged. The driver's side will ALWAYS be turning. Turning problems are eliminated, but when you have the wheel cranked and the passenger side disengaged, that joint can pop very easily. Like I said, its been covered before so if you want more details, look around.
