I'm finishing my TJ flares tomorrow and doing some other stuff: gonna put angle iron for rocker protection, aluminum diamond plate overlayed on it, 1" body lift, gonna make a mount for the TJ steps using the stock YJ mounitng holes any maybe 1"x3" bar on each side insted of 3 of the 1" pucks on each side. i want to make the steps removable like trailor hitches. When I'm done with all that I'm gonna start looking for some waggy front springs :D

update: flares are 99.9% finished. I just have to hook up the drivers side marker. I did the passanger side but I couldn't see much of anything it was getting late. The industrial warehouse won't be open tomorrow so I should get the angle iron and diamond plate on mon or tues :(

How much tire clearence did you gain by doing that? Did you cut the fenders as well, or just bolt up the new flares.

TJ flares are the way to go, but the side steps...what the hell? Thats cool for JU, but c'mon. Just make some rocker guards from 6"x6"x1/4" angle iron, cut to match the angle on the TJ flares, paint 'em gloss black and be done with it. They will blend perfectly with the sill on the doors and give you as much protection as you will ever need. Not really, but close.
Good Luck! No Diamond Plate or chrome!!! Please. :flipoff2:

I think removable steps would be cool. Its trick :smokin:.

I had already trimmed my YJ flares, 1/2" in back and 1/4" in front. With the new flares I think I got 1" more verticle clearance, not to mention how much more room they give the tires front and back. I haven't cut any sheetmetal yet but I will when i'm done. Now that I have them exactly where I want them, I'm going to trim the sheetmetal enough to bolt on extended TJ flares without taking the lip off the back of the flare. That lip stops water and gunk from getting onto the body. As I found, water gets up above the flare without that lip too easily

Oh Yeah, Last time I saw diamond plate at Kragens, I realized that rock is WAY stronger, so it really has no place on a Jeep rocker! Just run angle iron and call it good. Bring a can of spray paint on the trail to fix any evidence of use if you are really that concerned about how it looks.

Ya man, girlies dig it :roxy:

The diamond plate takes nothing away from its functionality. Its gonna be on the outside, not the bottom of the angle iron slider.

Your diamond plate sides won't last as long as you think. I have gashes 3"+ up the side of my guards from 1 run on the Rubicon, and I was be'in easy on her. If you too use the side of you Jeep to pivot on, the diamond plate won't slide as nice as just plain angle iron bolted with carrage bolts = pretty smooth surface.
