New or Used? Brakes on both axles? Dovetail?

From what I remember when I was shopping for mine that was about the avg price for new ones with a dovetail and brakes on one axle. Used ranged from 1200 all the way up to the price of a new one.

I paid $2100 for my all steel deck factory made one. I shopped around and finally decided to not go with a typical "mom and pop" type trailer. I was seeing things in the little guy trailers that I didn't like, so I decided to go ahead and make the investment on a good one. Things they don't tell you at the mom and pop stores is they add on for brakes, breakaway, new tires instead of used, good coupler, etc.

I got one of these almost 2 years ago for just under $2,000 delivered.
Came with diamondplate deck, 8 tiedown "D" rings, spare, axle brakes, and break-away option.

Yea, I could have gotten almost the same trailer a while back for about $1600. Steel prices are HIGH right now. I was lucky to find mine for $2100 I think. I called around for almost a solid day.

I've been doing some intense trailer shopping/comparisons for two years, from eBay, the web, visiting all the trailer dealers within a 100 mile radius of my home and scouting the local countryside. It's like Isley and TornadoTJ stated.

I wanted at the minimum a 7K flatdeck with open channel construction, 18'x83" between fenders with 2' dovetail, and 4-wheel brakes. With a good enough price I figured I could cheaply add tires, ramps, breakaway kit, additional lighting, d-rings/stake pockets myself. Best price was $1148 for a "kit-built" at one of those "mom and pop" places for just the basic trailer stated with recon wheels and grrrranimals maypop tires.

On the other end of my spectrum, I found a new 2005 PJ 20'x83" wood flatdeck (no dovetail) with really heavy boxed channel A-frame/tongue, all 5" channel construction, 4-wheel brakes, 2-5/16" bulldog coupler, stake pockets, 5' rear slide-out ramps, sealed beam lighting, breakaway kit, and new modular wheels with new 205Ds for $2180 posted price....talked it down to $2180 including tax, tag and title fees. Note that I was impressed with the construction/quality of the PJ make trailer. They had one with the same specs but with full diamondplate (steel) deck for $400 more.

I found some others that seemed to be bargains, but travel/transportation costs took the deal out of the mix.

One like that will cost you $1550 here in KS. Add $400 for a steel floor.

Here in Tulsa area, for $1700 you'll get:

all steel
18+2
recessed D-rings
2x3500
single axle brake
2-5/16" bulldog coupler
new tires/wheels (LT or trailer C range)
slide in ramps

From the same place, I got mine for $2300. Basically the same as above features, except the following upgrades/changes:

20+2
2x7000k axles (woot)
LT E tires
