Hi guys,

Does someone ever put a Clark 5 speed tranny in a Jeep?
Is it possible or too expensive.

I got a CJ7 with a 4.0L H.O. with AX-15 tranny and Dana 300.

Thanx

Oh I guess anything is possible. However have you seen a clark 5spd? I have one here that is still attached to the 391. It is dame close to the same size, just not as wide. And I would guess that since we picked it up with one chain right around the bellhousing, they are close to weighing the same. On the plus side I would guess that you would never brake it.

I think Novak used to sell them. w/ adapters for Jeeps. I didn't think they were much bigger than the other tuck trannys we use. I don't know what a 391 is, so I don't know what that comparison means. Clark's are available w/ many different ratios from 0.8:1 to 7:1, maybe lower. I think I have some info on them @ home, I'll take a look.

IH put them in many 3/4 and one ton trucks. Here is some info on an IH swap. BTW IH called the Clark a T-34

Fire an email off to Jefe (pbb userid). He's on this board occasionally and is, IMHO, THE tranny guru.

He just decided not to use a clark due so size and weight.

The clark tranny is just about the same size as a NV4500, wieghs a little more ~210lbs, theres a ton of different versions and 1st gear has a big range...I believe they made up to a 8:1, but that was only on special contract with some frieght company (white?), has a pto port on either side & BIG input and output shafts...

I've got a GM one w/6.7:1 1st, I was going to put in my M715 but now have a cummins turbo diesel/NV4500...it has an earlier rebuild, hasn't been run yet, my loss your gain, I've got ~$1100 into it...anybody want one? best offer takes it...

Performance Gear of Lumberton, Ms (ph: 601 796 2026) sells them complete and adapted to Dana 300 tc for jeeps. They always advertise in the back of Peterson 4wd mags in the little square ads in the back pages. Doesnt look that unusually big in the picture about same as an NV4500. No price is listed in the ad. Petersons a couple of years ago had an article on Clark trannys. They said there were many versions, bull low first and overdrive 5th. I'd like to know more. Course in a few years the NV tranny's should be more available as they have been out on the market longer. Will my T5 last? Personally, I'm thinking about the T5 adapter kit that Advance sells that allows you to combine your tailshaft from a jeep T5 with a mustang T5. Kit is about $500.00. Id like to run a 302 or 351 some day anyhow.

Most of the Clarks are 5spds WITHOUT overdrive. You can find them CHEAP in bone yards mostly in dump trucks and such. The only real downfalls are size, and adaptability. Very few people use them, but they are strong as hell and some have crazy low 1st gears.
