: Since I have been turning over so much lately...
wngrog 03-02-2002, 05:08 PM ...the logical thing to do is to get bigger tires, right?
Got a SCREAMING deal on some 42's...had to have them. They are a FULL 4" taller than my 38.5 SX's, clearance at my differential is now 12" in the rear, up from 10".
Don't know what it flexes like or how much more lift I am going to need. I will probably go up 1" with some Alcan's and lower my bumpstops.
These tires are wider than the 14.50's even though they are advertised as 15.00's.
My new height at the windshield is 80" and the new width is 83" from the outside of the tires.
So I am still wider than I am tall with 2" more clearance at the differential.
This picture is with 5# of air in the front and 1.5# in the rear to get out of the garage!!!
wngrog 03-02-2002, 05:12 PM Look at the 42 TSL next to the 38.5 SX
I had no idea that there was THAT much difference!
I am waiting on a motor mount in the mail before I can go twist it up...
More to come!!
That is a significant increase. Those things must weigh a ton.
Looks big.

I am looking for a way now to get my pavement speed back up after installing 4.88s. Hmmmm, maybe I need larger tires too.:D I work as a grip in the film business. Not a lot of glamour but the money is good.:smokin:

Donald Butcher 03-02-2002, 09:35 PM I'm currently in the Air Force working on my degree also. Are you glad that you got out? I'll be done with my degree in four weeks and possibly the Air Force in 6 months. Need an employee?? ha ha I need some cash to support my Cruiser addiction.
Donald
to my knowledge, it isn't common to make loads in the air force.... u might have to find somethin else on the side to support your cruiser :p....

green73 03-02-2002, 10:33 PM I have noticed alot of Air Force people on PBB. F-15 Avionics here. Due to leave Alaska in October. Hoping for Eglin, but Edwards or Nellis would be fun too:D . On the $$$ note the pay is getting better. Anyhow it's cool to see I have more in common than just Cruisers here.
reorx 03-03-2002, 12:30 AM Nolen,
Just one question: How the heck do you keep it stable on the trailer when you tow it? I can't remember if you have a 5th wheel or not...
On another note, is your trailer a flat-top? Reason I'm asking is that when I put on my 33x15.50s, I'm probably gonna be pushing it to fit width-wise on my trailer. Guess I may have to keep my 31s around as "trailer-queen" tires!
I can't wait to see Kate in action on the 23rd! Hell, I can't wait to wheel again! :D

Hey Man,
I have a 20" all metal tilt trailer. It is 85" between the removable fenders.
The trailer is LOW and it is HEAVY.
I remember posting on the Lone Star list when you were looking for a trailer to tow a FJ-60 that you would need a 20" trailer becouse there is so much rear axle weight on a FJ-60.
When I towed my old pig with a 18' utility trailer I could not get enough tongue weight to keep from getting the "sway" on the highway.
Take a look at my trailer on the 23rd. I may be getting a Goose Neck so I MAY sell it.

Sweet pics. I always wondered how much difference there was between a 38.5SX and 42TSL.
I wouldn't worry about adding any more lift, just get the sawzall out where it rubs. The higher you get the easier to flop and roll! Keep the CG as low as you can.
Jettech 03-03-2002, 01:41 PM Now we get to see how that RC 60 will hold up to those meats:D
Rob
Jason M 03-03-2002, 03:40 PM You bastard,
Couldn't let us be the same height for Moab could ya :flipoff2:
Looks cool, I was figuring that I would goto 42 when I get the new axles. Which will probably be xmas or so.
So I have to wheel on the puny 38's...
:( :D

I would LOVE for that thing to go South on me, but I don't think it will. I think they are much stronger than people give them credit for.
If it goes it will be replaced with a shaved 35 spline 9".
I will just have to move the axle back more to deal with the driveline angle.
;)
TxCruzr 03-04-2002, 05:35 PM daymn...so whatcha going to do with those 38's:D
looks awsome...We're looking for a yota p/u for me to drive to school and stuff so I won't have to use my FJ-40 as a DD...then I'll be able to do alot more stuff to it :D ...
This summer I need to get out there and go wheeling with you...your rig is to awsome...i know the pics dont do it justice...

Deep South Cruisers 03-05-2002, 05:41 AM The MIB disease (more is better) :D no cure for that except more mods:skull:
damn giant killer there Nolen, keep pushing the limits for all the Cruiser heads out there, we always love to see bigger and better Cruisers.:grinpimp:
gunracer1 03-05-2002, 05:46 AM thats it no more keeping up with the grogens, you had the 38x12.5sxs. i got a set on my cruiser, then you got the 38.5x14.5 sxs, then i got a set of those on the pig. now you got a set of 42s so to hell with it i am getting the 48 michilins on the 55 and you can play catch up. looks great but now it will be even more top heavy. but it looks kick ass. mike
YoungDogs 03-05-2002, 07:34 AM Nolen – the new meats look great!. I spent 7.5 years in the AF and also have a Masters degree. It was a good jumping stone.
green73 - I assume you’re at Elmendorf AFB. I loved it there. Lots of outdoor activities … fishing … wheeling … prospecting.

True, but it is the lowest Cruiser I have ever seen on 42" that still has a tub.
I am going to do my best to keep it that way. I am going to try the add-a-leafs and a 1" body lift.
That should do the trick....get it!!!
swamppig 03-05-2002, 01:47 PM hey for all of you AF guys, anyone at goodfellow AFB in texas? i am there for 13 weeks starting aug 22 for firfighting training. I am army but we use ur fire training area i guess.

Tankota 03-05-2002, 03:33 PM So now that you added more height than width will we get to see an OOPS! pic every weekend?:D
BTW, I just put my new 38.5s on the rear dana 60 in my cruiser and measured 12" of clearance...why did yours only have 10" of clearance?
orangefj45 03-05-2002, 08:06 PM nolan, when are you ever going to stop?!
you're killin' me bro!!!!!!:rasta:

Well, I was measuring the disctance at 5# of pressure. My RC D60 is angled up at a pretty big angle and the way it is designed, it hangs lower that way.
I don't know, what pressure did you measure at?
rdohn 03-06-2002, 09:22 AM Sweeet rig dude! keep it coming!
Tankota 03-06-2002, 10:16 AM Nolen,
My tires are at 15lbs and on 10" champion beadlocks which makes them crown in the middle:( . Also I shaved about 3/4" off of my dana 60 bottom (I made sure not to shave to the point where I had to weld on a new bottom piece though).
These two things are probably what make the difference in clearance (oh yah, and the fact that my 60 is not turned up at all).
Dude! The weekend I put 38.5s on my cruiser you go and get 42s!
DavidO 03-07-2002, 10:10 PM Hey swamppig, are you coming to the A&M fire school here in College Station? If so, drop me a line.
Hey Nolan, I'm glad I got that body lift kit off of you when I did. ;)

Have you installed it yet? Are you ever going to send me some pictures of your rig??
DavidO 03-08-2002, 07:13 AM There's not much of a "rig" yet. Mostly parts on the garage floor. I've been waiting 2 weeks for Ubolts. Once I get those, the axles will be on. I'm ordering tires and wheels today also. I sold all of the other ones that I bought.
The tub is sitting on it's side (to clear up space). The frame is sitting on the springs. The tranny and trans is all drained and ready to be Klune'd (hopefully this weekend). I need a couple of body mounts that I had to sawzall off, other than that, I'm ready to put on the body. It should start taking shape a little here soon.
