i've seen these seats come up in lots of "which seat?" threads but i want to know...are they comfortable enough for decently long drives? I keep my truck outside and it has no top or doors, the entire interior is rhino lined so these seats are exactly what i'm looking for. However, i don't have a tow rig and have to drive my truck to the trail. it isn't a dd, the furthest drive i usually make is moab which is about 6 hours for me. Anyways, for those of you who have the seats, will i be hating myself for buying them after a 6 hour drive to moab? Any other general opinions?

I think you will hate yourself. especially if you are not a skinny a$$. I drove a friends CJ-10A that had those type of seats for about 5 miles down a dirt trail. That was enough for me. I agree with you on the positives of shuch a seat but the negatives out weigh them in my opinion.

i have them and i love them. i have said it before and i'll say it again. i feel they are the best seat for an open aired trail rig. get the rci seats instead of the summit brand because they are a bit wider. yes if you have a wide ass they will not be comfortable. get the covers for them. they do help. also when they are mounted you need to mount them so they lean back just a hair. i'm not talking extreams here but you don't want them sitting stright up and down. other things to do is remove your wallet from you back pocket and don't wear a belt. my seats are comfortable and even my wife likes them. i do keep my wallet in my back pocket on mine but with my bud's summits i have to remove it. these seats are cheap and easy to clean. they also help hold you in during a rollover and work well with harnesses. unless you are a large person i say go for it. :D

I used to have a set in a '68 Camaro I bracket raced. I'd take it out cruzin and it's not something i'd do for a long haul with those seats (summit) and no way would I put them in a trail rig that you will be sitting in all day...but hey, it's your ass...maybe get some seats from a TJ, mine hold water till I lean the seat foward and dump it out. The foam never gets wet, the cloth cover dries fast, they don't burn yer ass when they been in the sun all day like vinyl does, and you can sit in 'em for days.

i actually am really skinny, but that could be bad cuz my ass is boney. I have honda accord seats in right now that are pretty comfy but i want to use some 5 point harnesses so they won't work anymore. I'm probably going to go with the Corbeau Baja seats then seeing that it seems these won't be comfortable enough.

I have RCI seats and my jeep was my daily driver for several years. I put bubble wrap under the seat covers. It works good, doesn't soak up water. I also put some small drain holes in them so thw water drains. I love them, and yes I have a boney ass also (no flames please). :flipoff2:

I have RCI's. They ain't Recaros :D but they aren't bad. They are the ultimate in weatherproof. You can get cushioned seat covers for them that are comfy, and they are washable. For added cushion you can do like was said and put buble wrap or whatever between the seat and the cover/cushion. They are dirt cheap and light.

I have sat in the RCI seats and my NON boney arse didn't like them very much. I had to spend a little more and get a set of Beard Ultra Sports which are being built into the cage at the moment. They have the same design as the stock Jeep highback seats with 5 pt openings for about 250 each

I had the RCI seats in my DD hotrod a while back. I bought a set of the slip over pads for them and they where not to bad to drive for an hour or so to and from work. I did do a couple of long trips in the car-4-8 hour drives and I piad for the seat choice. I used to toss extra foam inder the covers when I had to be in them for more then a couple of hours.

It is not horrible but I can think of better things to ride for 6 hours on. I latter replaced them with a set of junkyard bucket seats that had an upholstry shop chop up to fit my harness.

The only thing wrong with bucket seats is, everybody has a different size 'bucket'. Seriously though, if you're gonna be spending several hours riding the trails in those RCI seats, your bucket is not gonna be happy. Like sitting on a rock, even with the scrawny little padded covers. Worthless... Do your bucket a favor and get something with some cush... :D:D

i freind of mine had his junkyard buckets redone with the same shiat they use on boat seats. they where cushy and water proof.

dont know what he paid, but i think it was cheap 'cause his mom owns an upholstery shop.

i was just thinking about this last night. i am not small and i know the rci/summits will suck. so i came to the piont were i couldnt decide between some bestop seats or going with a sportier corbue or mastercraft. i didnt realize you could get beards for 250 i thought they were more. do any of you actually were a 5 point harness? i cant even stand the shoulder belt on the stock belts on the trail. i want just a lap belt. i believe you can use just a lap belt though on the 5 poiint harness cant you?

Problem with that stuff is it is not very tough and you stick to it bad when it gets hot outside...:D

Some Five point harnesses you can just use the lap belt. Others (cheap ones) only have one buckle that hooks up everything.

I got a set of RCI 5-point harnesses from a friend of mine who races. (apparantly they are dated and can't be used after a certain date?) I threw the harness away and use just the laps. (got the set for $20 :D )

these Baja SS are the shit, real snug with the 5-point harness and yes you do get what you pay for with the 5-point.

How much for the Baja's?!?! My :jeep: is gonna be 50% DD and comfort is rather paramount, especially since I don't have a tow rig ... yet. :D
