Ok im tired of paying the fawking state all of my hard earned money. Long story but Ive payed them $2,200 since January and now they want another $571, all for the same truck.
A buddy of mine has a F250 with a camper shell and registers it as a wagon and has car plates on it. He saves big time on reg.
I have a camper shell in my garage and want to know the legalities of switching over. Does it ALWAYS have to be on there. Will I get screwed if I et pulled over w/o it ect
Thanks

You'll need a cooperative lender for this -- you'll have to re-title it as a wagon, and that means they'll need to work with you on the paperwork unless you own it outright.
Fines are heinous if you get caught topless, but you do save on weight fees. Talk to the DMV first to identify how much of your fees are weight-related... I think you're mainly getting nailed on the value-added tax, whatve name they have for it.

holy crap! $2771 for your registration? i hope some of that was sales tax or something...
i looked up tagging a chevy 3500 duelly here in CA and the weight fees were only like $330+ the normal registration fee that all pay. my current 2500HD the weight fee is $154+ the usual registration fee...

DMV wouldn't take anywhere near the money, if you pay ontime, or at least non-op. My 2004 2500HD is only costing me $400 a year to keep the DMV up on. If you have it reclassified, you will have to keep the camper on it at all times, and you can not tow, or haul anything with it. Why have a full size truck then? You will have to sign a waiver stating that the truck is for passengers only. The only fees that you won't have to pay will be the weight fee, which I think is around $200 for my truck.

Well, thanks to the Governator, instead of paying $700 a year for my 2500HD, I only have to pay $400! That was one major reason for the recall of Gray-out Davis.

* Yes, you will have to keep the camper or camper shell on when on-road.
* No, you *can* still tow.
* No, you *can* still haul -- as long as the camper or camper shell remains mounted.
* No, you do not have to sign a waiver.
Been there, done that with my 1993 Dodge W250 Club Cab station wagon.
I ended up changing my registration back from 'station wagon' (no weight fees) to 'truck' (weight fees).

So, $2205 was for last year's reg, taxes and a reg fee that you lost the receipt for. Sounds like you blew off last years fees and are now paying last years, this years and a fine.
$344 for 2005 reg.
$344 is this years reg, tags and taxes?
Oregon is like $38.00 a year for pretty much anything :D .

Seems like mine's a little higher, like $75 or thereabouts (18k on mine too). County must be zappin' me

If that tax was sales tax you would have paid it no matter how it was registered. It's water under the bridge now though, so no sense losing sleep over it.

This really has nothing to do with how you register it does it? Again, water under the bridge.
$344 for 2005 reg.
Doesn't seem that bad to me. How much would registering it as a wagon be compared to this? That's the only figure you should be considering when comparing.

it's threads like this that make me glad I don't live in california
my tag (tax & registration) was right around 120 for my 350 last year and it'll be going down every year.
