Hi guys, i have a 92 4runner and my dad gave it to me , im 17 and getting into the off-road sport. Q. When i put my 4runner in 4 wheel drive and make turns the front starts making clicking noises could it be that my cv joints are bad?
Thanks.

do you have manual hubs that your turn the dial by hand or ADD auto hub system?

if manual hubs, the noise will only occur when you lock the hub regardless of the 4wd being on or off because the cv shaft will always turn if the hub is locked

if ADD auto, the noise will occur all the time because the cv's are turning all the time, when in 4wd, it connects a short shaft in the front diff

the clicking noise will usually be worst when at full lock to lock with the steering, the CV's need to be replaced and not just repacked because they are making noise

I agree, SAS time :flipoff2:

It's kinda sounds like your CVs, however, just to be thorough...does it make the noise only when at full turn? If so, then it's your steering stops, they need to be capped or greased or ignored (if it doesn't bother you, it doesn't matter).

If you need new CVs, there are always people here who will sell them to you pretty cheap. Also, try www.yotatech.com for more beginners. Unless you're willing to cut, weld, roll and bash your truck, pirate isn't for you.
