Ok i have a old 79 or so engine and i need a intake and carb for it. This truck will be for off road mostly and i need something for hills and angles. I heard from someone that there is now a "off road" carb which is almost as good as TBI. Any info would be nice.

An Edelbroch permormer manifold and a edelbrroch Q-Jet is a good setup up. I use to run that on my old chevy but I don't think any carb as better than TBI. Just my .02 cents

Edelbrock performer carbs just plain suck for off roading....GEt a rochester quadrojet or the edelbrock quadrojet. They are the best off road carbs.....
Fuel injection or propane is the best by far for off camber situations......... :skull:

My old rig (76 c20 4x4) had an edelbrock q-jet and performer intake and ran like a champ on reasonable angles, but it doesn’t come close to running as smooth or reliable as my fuel injected rig now. If it were me I would go to the local junkyard and invest in a fuel injection setup, but if you were on a tight budget the edelbrock q-jet and intake would be your best bet.

Before buying, I would look at the new Holley Truck Demon, it's 600 cfm and will hold an idle at 45 degrees in any direction. My local 4x4 shop let me try one out, and as much as I love my edlbrock q-jet, I like the new Holley even more.

Edelbrock bought the casts off of rochester so the q-jets are basically the same. Petersons ranked the q-jet #1 hands down but that was a year ago. May have been before holleys truck demon
