I am repainting the FJ 60 and the more that I've thought about it the more I'm thinking I'll stick with the original brown. Her's the twist, I have a bud that does those painted wood sides and was thinking of having him do the cruiser with wood sides where the stripes are on the vehicle in the picture. Am I on glue or is this a good idea?

That is a SWEET Fj-60...I did not know you had one.

As for the wood...you want wood, go for it!

Remember the "Woody" Cruiser in the Sept/Oct 1999 Toyota Trails? Now that was a cool, unique truck. Oh yeah, Sloan. Go for it. There is a white FJ62 here with the fake wood, and I smile everytime I see it. Looks nice.

Yep, that truck is a sprung over with a 350 and 37x12.5s. This photo is what happens when you want a tow bar but don't want to store it inside. It's a pretty cool rig. Looks like now I'll get the vanity plate GOTWOOD for the 60.:D

I would keep it as is, maybe its just me but I think the wood on the side would look :rainbow:.
I would think that wood panels would be a PITA to upkeep.... :skull:

I'd say, if it was stock, the wood would look as queer as a $3 bill, but on a nicely built rig like that, it would proboly look prettys bad ass... as long as you keep from tearing it ip on the trail. Matt:rasta:

It might be cool, but i think it would be bad news the first time it gets any type of trail rash. Also don't like the idea of making a 60 look anything like a Heep :p

I didn't think anyone did glue anymore up in the studios, just East Hollywood. Why that looks like Dave Beckett's ex-60. It has been tested off road and it passed. I like the license plate concept, but Im' not sure it will get over on the DMV censors. Wood or just the way it is, it is great.

You mean he sold his 60? Hey Pinhead are you going to the meeting this afternoon?

If you are just replacing your old vinyl stripes with vinyl wood It won't be any differant in the wear factor. Besides I like woodies, just don't over do it and make it look like a Heep Wagoneer!
Your 60 looks clean and functional.

P.S. whats up with all the :rainbow: bashing on newbies and all?

Sloan, I didn't realize you bought Dave Becket's FJ60, I drooled all over that thing when I was in SoCAL last year.

Personally, I'm a HUGE fan of basic colors for the 60 series, I don't care for the "family wagon" paint schemes Toyota chose for the US, I prefer bright red or yellow or orange. I think AA Yellow (same as D90 Land Rover) would be a *killer* paint scheme for a 60 series, especially a wheeling one like yours. I'm also partial to orange and considered it for mine, but it was vetoed by the CFO (my wife). A nice bright green would be killer, anything non-metallic (hate metallic paint on Cruisers).

Just a thought, I'm pretty opinionated when it comes to paint jobss.

No I didn't buy Dave's that was just a pic that I found to illustrate the area I was refering to. Mine looks like his just shorter and the paint is peeling.:D

he's right, yellow looks really bitchen... i think some wood can look a bit :rainbow:.... i'd go by cost... cuz i really have no idea which would be more.... do wood if it's cheaper, or yellow if it's cheaper....

I totaly agree w/ 60seriesguy on this one, the family wagon schemes just don't look that good on a 60. I saw a canary yellow 62 in kona hawaii & it looked better than I had imagined. If I ever repainted mine thats probably what I'd do.

I would consider orange but yellow:barf: . :D

Here is my girl. Same color, Dobinson lift, 33 BFG M/Ts and a lot of my sweat. Gonna paint here and a ARB bar to finish her off. 232,000 miles and still going strong.:D

nah, don't rock the wood! What is wrong with that paint job. It looks fine in the pic. Maybe that money could be spend better on some other mods??? Not sure because I know the hood and roof are the first things to go and you can't see those in the pic...

Sloan,
Must be those glue fumes are getting to me. I thought that the top picture was your fj60 and I recognized it as Dave's. I know that Dave is real attached to his rig, so I assumed that he had fallen on hard times and had to sell it. Dave wasn't at the meeting yesterday to straighten me out on the assumption.

I think the imitation wood panels can look cheesy on Cruisers. At the risk of sacriledge agains the Cruiser gods I actually do like real wood trim on the really old Willy's wagons though.

If you have a trail rig i would think either real or imitation wood wood get beat up and crappy looking over time.

Don't like the idea of orange, but a canary yellow (maybe the X-Terra yellow) might look nice.

How can people not consider a spring-over *the* natural lift for a 60 series? I keep looking at the picture of Dave Becket's truck above, and the proportions are *just RIGHT*! I guess the 37" tires help, my truck looks like a skateboard with the puny 35's....
