1. I was wonderin, is the stock 6 engine in the LC's that great for pavement? I heard they only go like 55 mph or sommat like that... just wonderin if someone could confirm.... same goes with 4's...

2. What is a springover? if someone could explain it shortly or give me a link with an explanation, that'd be great....

thanx

Standard Toyota Landcruisers have the leaf springs under the axels...spring over is when you put the leaf spring over the axel...spring over gives better articulation and lift.

TLC 6's are good engines, they will run forever if treated right. They are awesome off road, a little on the slow side on road....Mine would eaily get up to 70 mph, but it was scary with the stock steering:eek: , kept it aroung 55 or 60.. Only problem with the 6's are going up grades, if you do a lot of mountain driving be prepared to have Semi's pass you up, gutless on hills...TLC engine are also not known for their fuel economy....:skull:

i really have no clue as wut would help besides a beefier engine...

well, if you dont want to by a new engine, you might want to try....

1. 4.3l throttle body from gm vehicle
2. New camshaft
3. high compression pistons
4. weber carb

But if you dont want to waste your time with that, get a 350 V8

Check out mileage on your own, driving with a lead foot drops the mileage fast but if you drive like you have an egg under your foot you can get fair milage, about 16 mpg.with a fuel injection mod, jacobs spark control module set and Clifford Headers I get from 18 up to 21 mpg, once I got 24 mpg driving from above Placerville to Sacramento at 50mph. The Bay Area has diverse driving conditions. Remember that you are pulling and rotating a lot of weight because every thing on the cruiser is extra beefy!
Good luck!

The hot swap is the 3AC engine from '80s Tercels - They have BALLS!!!

Put an 4bbl International 345/392 V-8 in it. You'll still get 15 mpg and it will pull the ass out a Chevy 350/400 below 2800 rpm. Besides, everybody puts a Chevy in, be different! :roxy:

However, I like to see rigs stay with the stock equipment, for some reason. Maybe a turbo kit on the stock I-6 for the grades? The shortblocks are pretty stout, they'd probably take it.

Above all, remember what the guy above said: The things are heavy, you'll have a hard time getting a race car out of one, but keeping highway speeds on mountain grades isn't too hard.

I've had my FJ62 (sprungover with 35's, with a loaded roof rack and towing a military 1/4 ton trailer) at a documented (by GPS) 90 MPH, but you don't want to ask me how long it took to get up to that speed! :)

Seriously, the inline 6 is a great engine, but GM V8's are fantastic in Land Cruisers as well. Depends on your driving and wheeling habits, overall budget, smog regulations where you live, etc...

i live in california... but i look at 71 or older (still lookin to buy) because of smog regulations... it's one of my most important criteria.... when and if i get the money, i'll probably get the V8...

another thing, how about flow masters? i know they're easy to mod new cars and it'd be cool if they were easy for TLC's too... i know they add MPH and MPG so... yeh...

When I lived in Reno a bunch of us would usually get a wild hair and goto San Francisco for clam chowder at least once a month. Usually more. That was when I was running 32" tires, 2.5" exhaust, 2F, stock 4 speed, a header and a holley carb. With 3.70 gearing, and a fully electronic ignition.

Pulled there and back easily. And I kept up with traffic just fine..

24mpg. Don't expect it. Tune it properly and you might see 14. The faster speeds kill the mileage. But what the heck. would you rather go 45????

Oh yeah,
When I switched to a flowmaster from a glass pack I noticed a big difference. Just a tad snappier. Don't expect a world of difference with just a muffler though.

Plus I love the way they sound. I love it when people walk by and ask what v8 I have in it.

Heehee... i think i'd laugh and drive away... is there some kinda illegal flowmaster? i mean, illegal for CA cuz of smog, but i'm gonna get somethin pre 72 to bypass all those standards...

anyway, the "illegal" flow... u know anythin about it?
