The jeep looks great, that goes without saying, but I like that VW too. Is it yours? Does it run? My first off-roading was in a bug like that, great for getting squirrelly on flat dirt trails. Not too bad for getting places, either. On a dry day and with fat tires, you can straddle the ruts if you drive it right. If you get stuck, two guys and a shovel can get out of almost anything cuz its so light.

Is there a trick to doing long radius bends like those? I'm going to be making tube fenders and will try to match the exisiting hood line, rounded wheel wells would be nice too. The best way that I've thought of for doing it is a lot of small bends and a ton of patience.

ya that bug is mine as well, It is a 67, it was my daily driver from my 16th for 4 years untill I bought my jeep. did a little wheeling in it a long time ago, went a few places my friend couldn't take his bronco II, he was mad. still runs perfect, but the floor is falling out, needs some tlc, but the jeep takes all of the tlc away from it. Need more hours in the day and less work o-ya more money would help to!

You could do it like the motorcycle guy Jesse James does his. Cut out a piece of plywoodin the shape of the bend and clamp it to a metal table. Then just heat the tube up (not too much, just past the red glow) clamp one end and use the plywood as a die. It looked like he had to use a lot of force when he did it, so leave several feet of tube for leverage. Best thing is, you can make exact replicas over and over of the same bend.
You could also just make some standard 180* wood dies with different diameters for regular bending w-out shelling out for the JD2;)

I watched that twice on the Discovery channel. The only thing is that the narrator said he was using pipe, not tube. With the amount of force he needed to bend that pipe i can't imagine what it would take to do the same for some 2" .120 DOM tubing. However it could just be that the narrator is an idiot and doesn't know what he's talking about. Either way, those bikes are SWEEEET!!! Next time i have 70 grand to blow on a toy that's definitely gonna be it   :roxy:

How far did you bring those out?
I was talking to a state boy over the weekend, He told me about the 6" flare max. But wasn't sure about modifying the body, said to check inspection station.
Wanted to talk to you or Rob to see what you guys know.
I really hate these gay laws! :mad3:

Doc who ever you talked to was wrong. Fender flares not to exceed 3 inches. Is how it is written.
And stock TJ flares are 3 1/2 inches  The statue does not state unless original equiptment. Therefore we can go 3 inches past stock, Which is 6 1/2 inches. Mine are 5" and I get hell every time I drive it to work.:trooper:

As far as CJ's (flares) go. His are part of the body. Therefore they are not flares. His are a load bearing portion of his jeep.

Yeah, I know his aren't considered flares.
He's going to hide 42s on full widths, I need the info for when I go to hide my 14.50s :D

I missed that portion of the Jesse James special, hopefully they'll show it agian sometime soon. I might just ask the local blacksmith what he'd charge to do it, he's been super reasonable so far. Thanks for the ideas.

Ya i was looking at that the other day, not sure the 42 are going to fit under the tubing with full width, we'll have to see when it's' done, it will be close, probaly to close,.

That is if it ever gets done!!

this is why you would heat the tubing untill red hot, take your time and bend slowly.

or just buy pre bent tube, it isn't that much more expensive then straight tube!
