Yeah, I swear by their all-terrains.
High-tec retreads rock.
Tripower38 06-24-2005, 12:01 PM You guys with the Retreads do you run them on the road at all ?

RngrDv 06-24-2005, 01:22 PM Sure do. The greed diamond ones are really sticky. Plus they bling in the sunshine!!!!! :D
RngrDv 06-24-2005, 01:24 PM BTW I got their D MUD... Great cleaning and grip
SilverZuk 06-24-2005, 02:15 PM I ran high-tec retreads all over the east.
On rocks they were great. Soft compound, flexy carcass, very grippy.
In the mud, they sucked.
Hard to clean to the tread, not enough power to generate wheel speed.
The down side is a weak sidewall, (which was an atribute when talking about carcass flex). I cut one side wall, and the other sidewalls looked rough. For $70 shipped to my door I ran them because I was in a pinch. They did well enough that I didn't feel compelled to spend money on "better tires". They flat out sucked when it got muddy, but did exceptionally well on rocks.
SilverZuk 06-24-2005, 02:16 PM They ran great on the road, but wear quicker than most due to the soft compound.

See, and I've had the exact opposite. HOWEVER I have noticed that with my 2 different orders from them (one for 4 tires and then later for 1 spare) I did get different sidewalls One time I got some heavy heavy goodyear wrangler sidewalls and then on my last one I got a BFG sidewall. I think how strong or weak your sidewall is going to be will depend entirely on which tire you get the core from(like an MTR versus a dunlop allterain, the MTR will be stronger). As far as the tread compound, that stuff sticks to rocks absolutly fantastic! they handle great on the road and never hydro-plane in wet weather like my other tires did. They clear most mud sufficiently, but the sticky stuff doesnt clear out. As far as the tread compund goes for wear, I have probably 15-20,000 miles on mine and they still look almost like new(I keep them inflated to arpox 30psi and am locked front and rear) Perhaps they have switched to a harder compound since you purchased yours last? or perhaps the tread pattern you purchased wears faster than the one I got (example, mud terrains wear much faster than an allterain or all weather tire).
Anyway, they aer well worth the money. Consider this, you can get 3 sets of these for the price of one set of BFG all terains, they stick and perform well and 3sets worth of mileage should exceed the tread life of any 1 set of BFG allterains.
Hvy_Chevy 06-24-2005, 06:19 PM I'm on the tiny tires - 215/75s
Cooper Discoverer Radial STT's
actually do quite well for their size. Quiet on the street, surprised me on rocks (coming from ATKOs)
didn't puncture or lose a bead - though I didn't air down either.
zukmonster 06-25-2005, 05:12 PM well this is my first post, even though ive been checking this site out for about 2 months now. but anyway, could anyone let me know .... is the carcass that have the BFG mud-terrain tread on them a BFG carcass? was wondering if they would put a BFG tread on a wrangler carcass, or visa-versa? just thought id ask. and if they do, does anyone get any weird looks because of their tires? :D

If this is a problem for you...your on the wrong board dood.

They dont put BFG tread on anything. They use their own tread patterns and they put them on a variety of different carcasses. And yes, people have questioned the tread on my 'wrangler' sidewalls and I have told them that they are re-treads and that they rock.
Tripower38 06-27-2005, 06:09 AM Hey Guys,
Are those Hi Tech Retreads DOT approved ? Is there a way to get 4 tires that have matching carcasses are they pretty good about that ? Or is it a crap shoot ? For as cheap as they are it is definetly something to think about.

As far as I know, they are DOT approved, but I would give them a call jsut to be safe. As far as matching carcasses...You always seem to get the same carcas within the same order.
