: Gauge options

Giving serious thought to redoing the instrument cluster. Would really prefer an off the shelf option. BTB wants $112 for an aluminum plate with 2 3 3/8 holes, and one 2 1/16 hole. Do able, I suppose. I could also go with the glove box door, and drill that for whatever.

Any other known options?

gracias

Yeah, those are nice. Unfortunately, I don't think Danny has much of anything left.

I just got the man a fre one for my vdo gauges, and it is really nice. The only thing that I think it lacks on is the fact that it has no cut out for the steering shaft. That would be easy enough to add if it really bothered you though.

My cluster is an aluminum plate that is cut to match the outside of the stock cluster but instead of the lower stock gauges it has four 2-1/8" holes for aftermarket gauges. Lets you keep the stock speedo which is kind of cool.

Did it fit over your column? I see what you are talking about, but I thought that cut out was for the "3 on the tree" rod?

Yeah, I saw that. My problem is my speedo took a dump (twice). Broke needle. I think I'd rather just bit the bullet and get a new one.

If I use the glovebox door, I can sort of do what you are talking about.

its really easy to make a panel...make a cardboard cutout that will fit your dash....trace it onto a pice of .080 aluminum....get some cole hersee indicator lites for your turn signals and high beam indicator get a couple of hole saws and your there

i hand made mine too. i'm no machinist. just used the same method as towner. i went all aftermarket gauges anyway with the LT1 swap. i painted mine to contrast the silver ultralites.

Yeah, it fit fine. It looks like bionic cruiser's dash on the bottom. I planned on making mine as well, but this was just too easy.

That is the setup you want :D The plate came from John Pardi. He has several different styles. Once you go down this path, expect to spend ~$500 for a complete setup

Aluminum gauge plate $60-$100, I had mine powder coated $20
Autometer guages including tach $275, Jegs
Speedometer $100, Jegs
Custom speedometer cable $80
New dimmer and blinker leds $10 Radio shack
New heavy duty blinker relay $6 Autozone

don't have mine made but the problem i see with alot of these panels is visibility. i mean when i had stock gauges i had to look down and move my head around the steering wheel to see them. thinking about making a panel to go on the dash similar to that of a j**p  put my 5 gauges in a row with the speedo and tach in the stock location(don't use them much :D)

Get a good aftermarket steering wheel and you won't have that problem.

I have the two larger, 3 smaller hole one from man-a fre that I am not using. I will sell it to you for 35.00+shipping - save you 10$. I wanted more guages and decided to have a panel cut for me. I also never had the lower dash pads and made a dash panel that will cover that as well. I had it cut out with a waterjet machine and it looks great. Here is a picture of the first cut, I changed it slightly and had it cut agian. It uses the old holes from the dash pads to bolt up. I hopefully will be installing the guages tomorrow and if I get it done I will take another picture. Let em know if you wnat the one from Man-a-fre from me.

I would have to check with the waterjet guy but probobly around 100.00 - 120.00. If you are interested I can check for you. If I remember I had him cut it out of 3/16" aluminum. I have since had it powdercoated.
