: NP205 input gear and coupler question

I've seen a picture of the various input gears and couplers available.

However, I am curious about two things:
1) What is the diameter of the input gear for the10 spline and 32 spline versions?
2) What is the outside diameter of the coupler for both the 10 spline and 32 spline versions?

TIA,
John

o.d. of both the 10 spline and 32 spline is 1 3/8"
the o.d. of the 10 spline coupler si 1 7/8"
i don't know the o.d. of the 32 because it is not a coupler it is a female input and mine is assembled to a 203 doubler right now and i can't measure it

Thank you VERY much. That is exactly what I was looking for.

Do you happen to know how often if at all the 10 spline coupler gets stripped out?

i have never seen it happen but i get your point --like the diff between coarse thread and fine thread bolts-- if you are thinking about changing the input in your 205 to use the 32 spline you have to bore out the case to accept a bigger bearing

Duane,
I'm actually looking at modifying some parts for a custom super low gear reduction box.

I was going to mate it to a 10 spline SM465 and have a 10 spline female input gear on the gear reduction box.

The big concern to me was the fact that the 10 spline SM465 has a 1.35" diameter outside of the spline while my input gear has a 2.07" diameter. I wasn't sure if the little more than 1/4" thickness would be enough:( OTOH, it would be further "beefed" by a bearing surface.

But by your numbers, I'd be more than safe:p

it happens commonly.
i dont think it is a power thing as my truck has gutless 350
i have a theory that the coupler needs a good shot of lube when assembled but no one does it.
end result is the coupler and tranny output shaft grind the splines off.
anyone have a better story? i am interested to know the answer as i have 2 10 spline 465 with damaged output splines

I believe the 32 spline was used for tc's mated to th400 transmissions. The bearing diameter for these input gears is Larger in diameter, and a non-400 tc must be machined to use this input.

My brother bought an '80 3/4 ton w/ 70K Miles on it. The farmer he bought it from said he was backing out of his driveway and put it into Drive and stripped the 400/205 gear. Who knows how he treated it up to then, or if that is actually how it stripped, but I have seen a stripped 400 input gear.
