FJ25 are old, and therefore rare. They have little collector value. If they are missing key trim, ala hood emblem, steering wheel, seats, soft top bows or hard top pieces, doors, etc etc YOU WILL NEVER FIND THEM.

Most mechanical parts are discontinued (brake master, wheel cylinders), spring pins are funky and unique, 4 speed has few parts still available, original engine can have some seriously obsolete parts (fuel pump..). If you break an axle shaft, you are making it. Many I know who own 25's toss the drivetrain and axles (cruiserman chime in?)

have I talked you out of it yet?

hah... you might have... but the one that i have come across is in, may i dare say, perfect condition... maybe not perfect but close to it...

wut ur sayin is that it would never be a wheelin truck, but maybe for show or a daily driver?

Hard top or soft top?

Hard tops have elongated B pillars (8" higher than tub) and square door frames.

soft tops have round door frames (and should have drop down tail gate).

If hard top, I'd take the front clip and windshield frame and bolt to a disk brake'd 40 series frame (any year).

if soft top, I'd take tub, doors, and top (if exists) too. You would have to solve the brake master/clutch master deal. They use two bolt cast iron reservoir units vs later 3 bolt w/ metal or plastic reservoirs. Tub would bolt up to pre 1979 frames easily.

...and be done.

Don't even waste your time trying to work on the frame, waaayyy to many mods unless someone has already done them.

As for an original Sunday driver? if you could live with breaking down 20 miles from home on maiden voyage go for it.

As for a 'show truck'. Have deep pockets, very deep and even the nicest FJ25 I have seen sold for $5,000.

I have 1960 fj25 project that has a good tub and frame but all the rare trim pieces are missing and the drivetrain is changed to later 3sp stuff but I never ran it so condition is unknown.
$750 obo as I need to sell some stuff to fund a few swayaway coilovers.:D

ps: anybody need a brand new still in the factory shipping crate fiberglass roof panel for a fj40? I have one and it is complete from gutters to headliner.

As Rick wrote, 25's don't command much in the marketplace even though they are rare. PITA as a daily driver if original, and everything needs to be swapped out to make it a wheeling rig. That being said, they look cool, since they are different from the dime-a-dozen fj40's out there . :D

I'm slowly turning mine into a wheeling rig. The frame and body (and springs) are original, but just about everything else has been (or will be) swapped out.

LCLvr, I think the market value of an unrestored but complete FJ25 in good condition (no rust holes, no frame damage, no hacked-out conversions) hovers around $2,000-$2,500. You see them occasionally for more than that, just recently there were two of them listed on the Specter site for many times more than that, but I know for a fact that neither has received any serious offers. Like Rick D and Cruiserman point out, there is just too much stuff that is unique and impossible to find on these to make them a desirable restoration project. If you want to wheel them, you'll have to change out so much stuff that you're essentially buying a shell for whatever drivetrain you want.

OK, so it's really not a good idea unless i like the shell that much... thanx fer showin me....

two more q's, what's PITA and wuts the specter site?

thanx

BTW i was gonna use it as a daily driver, no 4x4in...

Doesn't the FJ25 have the old centered rear diferential housing ?

Actually I'd be interested in how much they want for it as well, I've kind of got a weak spot for old rare Toyotas. Post the ad so we all can see.

Yes. I've got one outside holding down my driveway if you want it.

eric-

that pesky driveway trying to leave again?

..to those who want a FJ25/early 40 rear. If you break a rear axle shaft (course spline) best of luck. Also, they are narrow compared to std 40 series. I'd ask cruiserman about his John Groves centered axle option first.

As a owner of a 1960 FJ25 (softop model) I have to agree you won't find parts for the running gear. Also the x-case was just an in-out box no low range. It does have a four speed bell housing which you can install a later model FJ40 4 speed tranny and x-case.

Jonathan must think that there is no market in FJ25's these days, b/c that has been forsale for a while... No idea what he wanted before, but $3k looks like a decent deal for it.

No bows, no doors, no hood emblem...sorry, but I don't think that's a $3,000 truck. It's not a wheeling truck, not really a daily driver, and missing key parts, not a restoration candidate.

I know J Ward bought a set of pre 1963 soft top bows last year this time and I do not think there was a candidate for them. That truck has rear tub rot and as Henry said it is missing key restoration pieces. I would look before making an offer....
