I am doing the mini truck disk brake swap on my '74 fj40. I bought a mini truck axle and after buying rebuilt calipers then finding out that the rotors are to thin to be resurfaced:mad: , I will try to go with vented rotors and ifs calipers since I have to buy all new crap.

After searching various sites I have come up with this list of parts:
1: calipers from a '86 or newer 4 cylinder mini
2: rotors from a '81 or newer fj40 or fj60 (not sure of the year)

And thats it. Is this correct?

1976 to 1990 Land Cruiser calipers ARE 1986-1989 1/3 IFS mini truck calipers. Rotors are two styles, 5 bolt on up to 1980, and 6 lug stud + 2 bolt 1981+. Find out which hubs you have to source the right rotors.

e-mail me off list if you want new rotors.

just buy calipers for the 86 p/u and use your calipers as the core, most of the parts counter people don't know the difference.

allpro has the rotors you need,i think i paid $65 ea.

there is a difference between the 4cyl and v6 calipers the v6 havve a bigger piston so you have to change master cyl--just go 4cyl with 81 fj rotors--plus the v6 calipers may require a fair amount of grinding or wheel spacers the 4cyl can usually grind just a little

Ok, I returned all the solid rotor brake stuff today and called around for prices on the vented goods. Auto Zone had the best prices. The caliper prices are whats killer... new calipers for a '86 pick-up w/4-banger, $25.99  !!!! NO core charge. I had to ask him twice and I still dont believe it.

They want $61 for the '81 fj40 rotors. I have the six lug 2-bolt rotors from a '83 so they should work.

Anyone tried these Auto Zone calipers before? Are they junk?

i work at the Zone (poor college student) and we rarely have calipers returned. They should work fine and you cant beat a lifetime warenty.
