I have an issue that is driving me nutz! If I leave the front driveshaft out it runs fine, butr pops out of 4HI lock on occassion. If I put the front shaft in the front end bangs like hell. The best I can pin-point is the T-Case area from the noise inside the truck. No one I know is dumdb enough to hangon to the bottom as I drive down the road to pin point it for me. I can tell you this. It has a 4" lift and 33" tires. I prepped the DS as directed in the kit. I have replaced the centering joint. The only time it is really bad is under accelleration and turning. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

My buddy used to blow the splines on the slip yoke all of the time on his '79 blazer w/ 4"s. Made a hell of a ratchet type sound evertime and most of the time you can't see the splines are shot until you pull the DS apart because they will stip just on the engaged part, so if you have exposed splines that look fine, that is no indicator that things are alright.

4Hi-Lock is your part-time 4wd mode; it'll bang just as it would if you put an NP205 into 4wd on the street. What does it do in 4Hi normal-mode?

You mention a "kit"; what kit did you install, and what did they tell you to do to your driveshaft?

They recommended I dog the ears off of the drive shaft to remove any bindings that would occur. This was only a 4 in. lift. Do you think I may not have dogged enough off the ears?

Same in 4HI, 4HI Loc, 4Low, 4low loc.

its got a 203 if its a full time case, I would guess its got a broken carrier in the T case if its really banging hard on the floor. if its banging from the front axle then I'd say you have a broken spline shaft in a hub. happy hunting

by the way, try blocking the rear wheels and jacking up one front tire. in 4HI it should spin free , brace the front end againest a tree if you must then you can look under it from a safe distance and see whats spinning or banging.

is your burb has a 203 in it your chain is probably shot and stretched also 208's have the chain it sounds like it should be the 203 though. pull off the cover plate on the back passenger side behund the front output and you can see the chain. the gear for the chain rides in a bearing in that cover so be careful.

the 203 with the shitty cv joint does not like lifts, mine dshaft did the same thing. you can get a 205 yoke style cv [203 has flange for the cv out put mount] but you need to triple check your pinoin angles or you will burn it up real fast.
