The prob I see with narrowing the axles like in the mag is that you are swinging the tires in a huge arc. I think it was the article on the cover truck, there is a good pic of the knuckles. If you draw a line between the king pins, it hits the ground inside the inside wall of the tire.

i got to watch a rig running rockwells, the big military tires, coils, 2 203 boxes with a 205 a couple of weeks ago and i was not all that impressesed. while the rig was sweet and neet to see, i wan't impressed by it's ability because it was so big and so wide. i definatly would not want a set for trails i like to run.

I'm with you on this. I'm going to change that impression if I can. I am running hummer wheels w/ a custom backspacing and flipping the hubs and running 42's to attain a total outside of tire width of 86". With that and rear steer, I think I will have one very nimble rig. I also plan to clearance both axles, which will give me as much clearance as a 44. I'm not at all into the 50" tire, 96"+ wide gig that you see on most rockwell rigs.

yea that guy with that bit green and orange toy with the rockwells. ronnie [the guy with the white scout aka hayraker] ran behind him on jim and juanitas, said it didn't impress him that much either. i think as big as that thing was, it would work great on the shelves at disney, or moab. but not on the tight trails through the trees. lord knows i has enough trouble putting my pig between the trees. mike
