: Geo Tracker?
punkskalar 03-03-2002, 07:46 PM I have this crazy Idea lately...
I recently have gotten rid of (rolled and sold) my jeep cherokee and am actually interested in a ZUK, but theya re a bit older than I wanna go with, and really like the idea of a tracker...
I would of course SAS it, (toy axles front and rear) but I wanted to know if it share any of the other parts that the ZUk does such as T-cases and trannys... Since alot of guys are swapping in the 1.6, why not just start with a rig that already has it... I was a Jeep guy and know Yotas up and down, but a new challenge interests me...
are the stock T-cases and Tranny's any count?
Im actually serious about this, feel completely confident in my fabrication skills and am not afraid of new ideas...
I would like to start with a tracker since they are a bit newer than the ZUKs and already have a centerd rear output on the T-case...
Ideas/Thoughts?
I have never seen many Trackers built up, but plenty of ZUKS... Suzuki actually built these did they not? Sorry for the questions, if it was a Jeep or Yota Id already know the answers...
Azrckcrawler 03-03-2002, 07:57 PM You don't see many built ones due in part to them being IFS from the factory. Major fab work required to get that solid axle under there and finding tire clearance. Check out this site (http://www.sky-manufacturing.com/) under custom. The guys there have done a lot of work to that Sidekick, might save you some time.
punkskalar 03-03-2002, 08:09 PM That one is kinda cool, but I would like to stick with 33-35" tires, as in my area that has taken me everywhere I have wanted to go... Yeah, big tires rock, but 35" boggers would be as big as current ideas go... we know how that is, next thing Ill be wanting the 37's... Oh well.... I really wanna stick with the stock motor, and if Toy Tranny's and T-cases can be adapted, I know they are plenty tough... If not, then I would want to install the Calmini lower case gears... Anyhow, thanks for the information, still looking for more though...

jp008 03-03-2002, 08:15 PM Try www.geocities.com/jp008/brettskick.html This belongs to a good friend of mine. It will make it's debut in Moab this year at EJS. For the most part it is finished and it is sporting a 1.6, OTT kicker2, toyota t-case, Toy axles and Wrangler springs. The guy that owns this is bb88 on this board.
DO IT !!!!!!! mine is coming along ~~~I have no regrets in doing mine:D if you do it look into the OTT kicker 2 . it is a modified 'kick t-case that bolts to a toyota t-case, slip yoke problem solved and it gives you some nice gearing options
mini4by 03-04-2002, 06:05 AM After seeinh that I almost regret ditching my Geo..
Take da coke himey!
High5 03-04-2002, 06:28 AM heck i am trying to talk a buddy into letting e build him one. i figure if we get a 16 valve 1.6 4x4 with power steering that would be where i would want to start. then get a sami x-case to put behind the stocker and run a set of waggy 44's on either coils or wrangler leaves. i would also cut the rear fenders out and slide the rearend back.....way back so that it is about a 100" wheelbase. anyway i think it would be a cool setup. now if i can just talk him into it. :D
scwafish 03-04-2002, 06:52 AM They are cheap and about the right size, but the sas loks like a pita. Otherwise I say go for it!
jp008 03-04-2002, 11:29 AM SAS is a piece of cake if you have some basic knowledge and know how. I know you could do it (scwafish). I can't wait to do a 4 door. I'll try and get some better pics of bb88's rig so you guys can see what was all done to it. If any of you are in Moab during EJS please come over and take a look at it we will be at Slickrock campground.
jones 03-04-2002, 11:30 AM I stripped the motor, etc. from a Tracker for my sammie and now the Tracker waits in the back yard to be built into a machine. :)

You of course entered "SAS Sidekick" into the search and found this thread, right? :D

If you make the suspension follow an arc that follows close to the swing of the prop shafts there is no need for worries about the slip yokes. Then you can use the Calmini 4.24:1 low range gearset - probably cheaper/easier than going the all custom Toy route. JAT

easier yes~~ cheaper maybe?? last I checked the Calmini gears were $1036:eek: OTT kicker 2 $650, Toyota t-case maybe $150:confused: potential gearing 148 to 1 w/ Toyota 4.16 gears and 5.29 R&P:D :D :D :D :D :flipoff2:
if you're feeling really spunky add the Calmini gearset to above setup for 337 to 1:eek:

That assumes it doesn't cost anything to make new mounts to mount this stuff.... Plus the other incidentals like where is the shifter coming up into the cab, are you going to use the stock shifter, yadda yadda. Do the body work to seal it up, etc., etc.
You know, the detail stuff that costs money. :flipoff2: :flipoff2:
Hey, if that's what he wants I'm all for it. Just pointing out the option of keeping it "stockish".
