Any specs on the weight savings over a steel CJ hood?
When you run out of stock, how long is your typical leadtime for the next batch?
I would be buying around the first part of August, just trying to plan.

Plastic hoods weigh about 6 lbs. I am not sure how much a stock hood weighs. Lead time is about two weeks if we are out of stock.

Do not use conventional paints on polycarb/lexan. It will cause cracking, brittleness and won't stick well.

For best results hit your local hobby store and get polycarb/lexan paint.
Though color matching will be difficult.

Then for a real tough paintjob, paint the inside and leave the outside clear. :)

A TJ grill fits a YJ hood fairly well. Look at the Rig on the cover of Crawl Mag July/August issue. It has a YJ hood and a TJ grill. My Lexan hoods can be trimmed to fit even better than the one in Crawl.

Gunmetalcruz
02-02-2008, 02:04 AM
Cole the hoods kill it. What I end up doing is blasting about 2-3 feet of paint of the inside of the hood on hard impacts. I usually pressure wash the inside and add more paint. If you do a good job with the 1/4 turns it really makes a differnace it how it holds up.

Also, as I think someone mentioned earlier in this thread - you can use any "candy" paint (tinted clear coat basically) that is safe to use on plastic - obviously - and paint the hood from the inside so it will last longer and will not get scratched or scraped off. So, if you need clear green, get a clear hood and some plastic-safe candy green paint so you can match your hood to the rest of your body panels. The hobby/RC paints (although it would probably take quite a bit) are good since most are made for Lexan and you can darken the shade of the candy paint with each added coat. Maybe this 2cents might help a little

Trent/Lisa...

How rigid are these? I know you said the first batch came out pretty brittle, but since switching to lexan, how much "give" is there?

Lexan works great . As you know we live in Tahoe and It gets pretty cold . We've taken the buggies on several snow runs overnight the hoods laugh at the cold.We also used them all last year during our races including KOH so they also laugh at heat. I would say they are virtually indestructable . You can bend them in half , jump on them , roll on them.............We've done it all The hoods are awesome.

We currently stock YJ and TJ HILINE fenders and we have headlights with blinkers for the TJ . WE are working on the JK HILINE Fenders as we speak . Our hoods work great with our fenders or anyone's fenders for that matter and I can have any of these items to you in about a week . Here are some pics of the YJ and TJ Fenders and the headlights .

Any thoughts on an Early Bronco hood?

We would have to sell about 50 hoods before we would even come close to breaking even . If there was enough interest in any one hood we would definately be able to pursue it .

I'm pretty sure we have everything in stock.........You should use clear because they are $100 less and you can paint them to match. We paint them from the inside so when they get rock rash it doesn't scratch the paint.

I just got this hood for the TJ so thought I would post some pictures after the install. Still need to do the hood pins. The folks at Trent fab were very helpful in answering my questions. I received the hood at my greyhound station within 4 days of placing my order. Excellent customer service.

Ouch! unfortunatly you have dirt on the hood, so the warranty is void due to possible scratches :flipoff2:  - that is a joke!

Yes we have them avail still. Can ship one out to you no problem.

These hoods have been working very well for me on the race buggies. I wouldn't of using anything else. When trimmed they weigh about 5 lbs and are very durable. You really can jump up and down on them. This season i started getting the whole car wrapped. The wrap sticks great to the hood and you dont have to deal with painting. I have had the car at speeds over 100 mph and had no issues, even towing on the open trailer for 1000s of miles.

This. Basic hood pins work OK for a trailered rig (~65mph) in concert with stock hinges at the rear?

And is Krylon Fusion sprayed to the underside of the hood holding up for everyone?

Unfortunatly no. THe hinges will work if you make a thin plate to go under the hood so the bolts don't deform or pull through the 3 holes. But the fender latches will not, you'll need to convert to hood pins, or 1/4 turn fasteners.

Any tips on cutting this thing? A bit nervous as I don't want to jack it up. Hate body work.

Sorry I didn't see this until today. We normally use a small air body saw and tape for cut lines. And sneak up on where we think it needs to be as we constantly test fit to assure we didn't go to far. We did that on the first one. :(
