Out of the box with no upgrades, which is stronger.

Dana 60, 35 spline, semi-floating axle

or

Dana 60, 30 spline, full floater?

35 spline = more torque
full floater = more weight

if everything else is equal (at least that's how I understand it)

I would imagine that most people on this board are breaking axles with torque, not weight... but I would think the almighty sixty's pretty tough to break in either form

Avoid the stock 35 spline C-clip D60s, unless you wanna weld up the spider gears

Or you want a lock right or the new Electic E-Locker!

I would say that the FF one is beause it has no c clips and the FF if you break and axle all you do is pull out the broken one and drive out with 3WD

ėverything else being equal,

35 spline are 1.5 inch diameter
30 spline are 1.3 inch diameter
1.5 can handle more torque before breaking.

semi floaters have one bearing supporting weight
full floater have two tapered bearings, with more bearing surface area you have less wear and better heat dissipation.

ya know there are 35-spline full floater dana 60's also........

OR find a J-4000 and get the 1.5", 35 spline, non C-clip, 5x5.5, rear Dana 60... :smokin:

ya good luck on that  and you might as well play the frikin lotery if ya find one...just get 14 bolt flanges and weld them up to a 60 center section...:D

Maybe I should go and buy lottery tickets too! Got one from a J-4000. No c-clip and beefy axle shafts.

Worried about the pumpkin being offset about 5" and the driveshaft being so short because my dana 35 rear is centered. Was toying with finding a dana 60 full floater instead of doing all the work to make the dana 60-2 fit.

But, sounds like this axle is worth making fit. Plus it is a rare beast!

if you look at a semi float 60..the shaft doesnt drop down like a full float 60 shaft. i think the last full float 60 shaft i looked at dropped down in size three times.
and how many people twist a 60 shaft any way in a jeep?

I used to have one of these 35 spline semifloating axles(without c-clips) from a j series truck in my willys before I went to a complete ton set-up.....I used to pound it with 44 tsl's and a v-8 with no problems...If your sticking to a non-eight lug front end then stick with the semifloating axle..If you go to a full floater you will need to do some modifing to convert the wheel pattern on the rear or front end one if you don't have a 8 lug front. This can be timely and costly if you can't do the your own machine work...Or just sell it and use the money toward a 60F....sold mine for $450:D good luck.

the full floater has those cool massive hubs...
