If any one is interested in running Independence trail before the Nat rally I would be interested in running it.

I would also be up for running Chinaman gultch. There is an extreme trail that is an off shoot of Chinaman that is supposed to be fun.

Cheers

Yes sir! It's referred to as Carnage Canyon, but the harder one, not the one by Boulder. I was thinking about running that before the rally as well.

Pendy, Yousef, and I were talking about doing Carnage during the rally.

Carnage Canyon is not for the faint of heart. The lower area is easily as hard as some Cruces stuff. The upper hill/cliff - uber extreme. Essentially winch only for all but the most extreme rigs. Steep climbs covered in loose rock with some big ledges and some turns mid climb = not a rover in existance that will make it up unaided. Though I have only walked it (was in my BJ42). I doubt Frank would make it up. The bottom canyon area looks to be lots of fun though.

I walked part of it Friday. There was a group of buggies there that had run the trail earlier in the day. One grenaded a rear D-70 at the end of the trail. Big group of Toy's and buggies ran it Saturday.
I don't think its possible to exit the canyon without using a winch from all the folks I talked to. I haven't met anyone yet that didn't trailer their truck to this trail :)

Maybe you should make some improved "headgear" first, you keep trying to roll the 90, sounds like you may finally succeed.

Oh, and take pics and post them here!!!

I will be up for running it. let me know what day you want to run it. Is it going to be a scheduled run for the Rally run? Do you know what day you want to run it?

No, not a scheduled trail, neither is Chinamans.

Is the list of trails.
It's my understanding that the list needed to get submitted to the Forest Service and it can be difficult to make changes this late.
Also Chinamans and Carnage are on BLM land. Not sure if that really makes a difference.
LWG might know more of the story behind why some trails are on the list and some are off.

How about Friday or Saturday? How far from Leadville?

What about Blanca on Wensday? Montrose may be to far away for me as I have a caravan this year.

It is about 45-50 minutes from the Hotel down to Johnsonville. Takes 5-10 minutes to get from the Gunsmoke truck stop in JV to the trail head (that includes opening and closing the two gates).

If I am not leading a trail on the day you guys go, anyone mind a photographer tagging along? I would drive to the trail head. Pretty much walk up taking photos. Then catch a ride back down.

Carnage on Friday or Saturday sounds good. Why can't the caravan make it to Montrose on Wed?

They won't run the trail with their trucks and Kermit and I are putting on a Barbeque at Frontier Rovers. I was hoping you guys might come down for a look see as well. Maybe barbeque Tuesday and escape to Montrose on Wensday. Let the others head up to Leadville.

So is this a "Formal" invite to a BBQ at Area 51???? Can we camp on your grounds since I'll be trailering like many others?

So Eddieman, are your informally announcing that your Series/Jeep/90/Buggy with 9/60's and coilovers is complete?

Did I mention it's a Series clip and bulk-head with a 90 hood grafted to a CJ tub with (my) 90 tailgate....all running on a rock-ware frame with a 2 link rear with air-bag suspension?

If so let's see some pics dude.

(this should get the tech rolling again if Eddie, Sam and myself get off our arses and start posting pics again....Oppps...Better cough up my 20 bones....

Rumor has it we might run Carnage Canyon the Saturday of the Rally. I don't really think that is a good idea because it will be really busy... That trail is getting a lot of traffic lately and the shear nature of the trail lends itself to breakage, thus major delays. Just a thought from me.

Plus, I don't think I can run it Saturday as I need to be in Leadville by early afternoon to start getting things ready for the Banquet.

That's right. Look for Larry in a chefs hat and apron cooking for everyone. :D

Seriously though, the past two weekends have been very busy on Carnage. Like a dozen buggies on trailers pulling in by 8am. And then a half dozen Jeeps showing up an hour later.
