: caddy calipers?

Ok, so everyone uses caddy calipers for rear disc brake conversions because of the ebrake feature.

What setups can use the 79-86 calipers with the 5" bolt and what setups need the larger 76-78 calipers with the 7" bolt?

Can a rear disc conversion on a FF 14bolt be done using 3/4ton chevy rotors and the smaller caddy calipers?

I have searched but haven't seen any specification as to what year caddy calipers everyone uses.

I would stay away from the small callipers for that axle. One of the guys I know complains the small ones don't stop too well.
I run the large ones - they work great.

You could probably find out if that works by contacting these guys too:

Are your brackets from TSM? Any more pics of the other side?

Any idea if a propotioning valve can be used to use the smaller calipers. They are much cheaper i just need to know if the rotor will fit in the caliper with the pads loaded.

I use the small caddy calipers with a F150 rotor. I had to 'pre-wear' the pads about 1/8" total so they could fit on the rotor.

Most of the problems I have seen with the caddy calipers is due to adjustment problems

I use the smaller caddy calipers with a cj rotor on a rear scout 44 axle, with AA weld on brackets. works great on the xj with 35's

Phil,

What did you use for e-brake cables?

I went down to the autoparts place and got two YJ passensgers side cables. They are VERY long.

do they have the same ends as the TJ cables?

Yes they do.

One thing I did to make them work with the caddy calipers was cut the drum end crimp on fitting off, and slide the spring off it (not supposed to use the spring with the caddy callipers), then crimp a new fitting on (make the amount of wire sticking out shorter at the same time).

Short Question:

How have You routed the e-brake wires? Below the axle-tube?

/F.

Brent, with the CJ rotor, you are having to run that behind the axle flange - correct?

Jeeprz - Does the F150 rotor fit over the face of the axle flange, or do you have to mount it behind?

I bought the F150 rotors for a 88 model. I went with these over the CJ ones mainly due to cost/ availability. I have mine installed on a Warn 35spline FF hub, so it will be differant than yours. I did have to machine the inside out a bit to fit.

No, I actually swapped the calliepers around so that the ebrake stuff points up. Then to bleed the callipers you must remove them, but it's no big deal.

I beleive the calipers i have now that i was planning on using for a core are the smaller ones. However the core charge on the large calipers isn't much so i may go with them. Any idea if the loaded calipers will come with all the hardware (bolts, brackets, springs)

Thanks

Sorry, I don't know about what they would come with from the parts store, but if they don't then maybe you can buy that junk from TSM? Shouldn't be much for that little stuff...

no the moser axles I have were made to fit the rotor over them and with the cj rotor, you don't have to grind down the pads.

Is there any place to buy the ebrake brakets for either caddy caliper besides TSM who will not sell them unless you are buying the calipers? The caddy dealer doesn't have any part numbers for them.

TSM gets the parts some where.
