350 Vortec, are there any differences?? [Archive]

I am looking into buying a 350 vortec engine from a 1996 chevy truck. If I recall there are some differences, however, I cannot remember what they are. Are the heads the famous "vortec" style on all models 96 and newer and are they all roller cam/lifter equiped. I am looking to buy the motor from a yard across the state and would like to know what to look for when I go and look at it. Hope someone knows something about these motors, anything will help. Thanks

I believe the heads are all the same. If your doing a swap you probably want a 96-97. '98 started using the antitheft ECU which means more wiring crap to deal with. When I get mine running I'll know more!
