Hey guys, do any of you have experience with quick release steering wheel setups? I'd like to install one on my FJ40 as an anti-theft device and want the best unit available.

if they make them for your rig, you might try the removable wheel set up that Grant makes. Grant makes two different ones, a quick release type that lots of buggy guys use... and one that leans more towards a security upgrade. That one has a locking cover you can put on your column after you yank the wheel. Pretty decent design for what it is. I wouldn't use it as the sole theft-deterant on a rig... but as part of an anti-theft system its purdy good.

IF its going on a daily driver, I recommend getting the splined disco. If its a trail only the hex style is fine. I have the hex and there is no way I would put it on a DD. It has a little play in it.

ANy local race shop can get them. smileysracing.com is where I got mine. My bud runs the splined version and its much tighter.

Get the splined one over the hex one. I've had both of them on my rig and found hte hex one really fun on the road (lots of play in it). I switched to the splined one and it made a really big difference. There was a thread in the Jeep section a few months ago on this that was really good, I'll try and find it and post the link.
