Have you gone to cross over steering in your rig? Post up with pictures and descriptions of how you did it.

its dark outside, not very good for pics. I started with Rockstomper x-over... steering arm, draglink and tie rod. Recently I switched to WFO Concepts double arms which relocate my tierod behind/above by D60. I kept the rockstomper steering parts... just shortened them a bit to fit the newer arms/location.

i can't belive they actually think something would flip on that, or does the picture not show how steep it really is, just an off topic comment

pics dont show how bad it is... however they said even when they allowed 44's on NJ roads NO ONE ever flipped....

what they do is you drive onto the flat ramp (which is a scale)
you get out and they weigh your truck
then you drive on the incline and they weigh the passenger side. This gives them a % weight shift.. too much and you fail....

now my truck being a fullsize is not bad.. however my friend drove on it for fun and a small truck.... oh boy....
http://www.supermotors.org/vehicles/registry/detail.php?id=8011&s=24452#content

cant find his tire shot.. he had less than 1/2 his tread on pavement and I had 3/4 tread on pavement.... :smokin:

also the owner of the blazer is in this pic with my truck..

not too much to discuss on crossover steering
gotta be 40 vendors selling the parts, 10000 threads on it, several online detailed write ups...

I have some images showing the D44 flattop knuckles from 80s Dodge 3/4 ton and from 70s Ford 3/4 ton
that may help someone if they are still running the snap crackle pop running gear...

ford 3/4 ton in primer. you need to look for the raised bosses on the PS knuckle. will be the same for chev and dodge
http://www3.telus.net/mjmillar/4x4/dana44balljoints/DSCF0164.jpg

doesnt look like the good dodge image made the cut but here is what they look like.
if you need to see the under side lemme know I can shoot it
the removeable brake bracket looks easy to adapt if you insist on running rubber mounted chev calipers...

I used the ORD bent link, 6" dropped pitman, and a steerinjg arm from shaker. Also used a reman steering gear box from 2wd. It is easy on a 60. :flipoff2:

It is nice to be able to turn the wheels lock to lock no matter how the axle is aticulated. She also turns on a dime. I can spin the steering wheel with 1 finger sitting still on the blacktop now.

What I dont like is I get a lot of "sway steer". Kinda like bump steer but on corners when the truck sways a little. Does anyone else get this?

What about cross over steering on a 10 bolt front end? I have a friend that is going to swap in a set of 3/4 ton axles (14 bolt, 10 bolt) from me and he's going to need better steering down the road. I heard somewhere that a flat top dana 44 knuckle can swap onto the 10 bolt. Is this true? Has anybody tackled crossover on a 10 bolt?

What are you putting it on? I am running Sky Mfg crossover, highsteer, and high steer arms, all with 1 ton tre. Also a redneck ram. It is all coming off in a month or so and I am going full hydro.

Im a cheap ass. I got a jeep cherokee pitman arm had it reamed out used stock tie rod ends both right hand threads cut it to length and am going to tap the hole. Priceing goes as follows.

Pitman arm: free fit in my boot ;). Drag link:free used it off my 10 bolt I had left laying around from swapping to a dana 60. Tie rod ends about 35$ from oriellys. Had the pit man arm reamed for 15$. Got the cross over arm from parts mike with studs for 185$.

I'll post pics when I get off my dead a$$ and tap the other end.

It doesn't hit anything. The cap will be gone when I machine a Hy-STeer arm.

Ahh ok

I am unsure weather or not I will install the high stear kit with the cross over steering as I want to keep a steering dampner on it somehow and with the high steer kit installed the only way i can see to put a dapner on it will affect the cross over setup. Any suggestions?

Here is my Sky MFG stuff. The high steer looks tweaked, but its just the pic, I went back and checked. It is a complete Redneck Ram assist kit, with them rebuilding the box and tapping it.

The sector shaft on a 2wd box allows you to index the pitman arm so that it turns left/right instead of front/back like stock when you turn the wheel.

You can swap the sector shaft out for a 2wd one, or just swap out the box.

My set up was made by Rockstomper around 10 years ago and has been on 3 trucks. The steering box was done by West Texas Offroad. The arm is from Sky. It was set up for 4" lift but works fine at less then 2".

Maybe a panhard bar?

Yes 2 tierods. The OE was there to do easy measurement for the histeer.

is that green block attached to the frame? if so, do the hoses have enough slack for when the suspension moves?

on a side note, man i gotta get over to your country sometime. you guys have the cool hillclimbs, and the wheeling looks epic among other things.

Chevy-Sheriff
11-23-2011, 01:33 PM
The green block is welded to the frame/bumpstop bracket.
If not, the hoses will be able to move between bumpstop and top of the spring, and could be harmed.
There is enough slack for hose movement, both in and out flex

Isnt a bend in the drag link a "no-no"?

when it is kept reasonably short in height and shallow on angle it is not an issue.

when they have a 10" drop @ 60* they will stretch and compress when push/pulled on.

Oy .... There is only one correct way to do it and its bot neccesarily the cheapest. Look on page 1 of this thread and you will see towards the bottom a truck with a Dana 44 and crossover steering. Look at those parts he used and go get them on your truck. Basically it revolves around having a passenger side flat top knuckle.
