: RE SOA Springs
bigdude 03-04-2002, 04:58 PM Looking hard at these springs. Just don't want to spend $500 for a sh@tty spring. Any advice would be appreciated.
And yes I thought about cooking up my own, but I just don't have the time to mix and match springs. And right now I'm drinking a bunch of
LOS-YJ 03-04-2002, 06:59 PM I know a few people that run them and they work great nice flex, I am doing SOA, And I am using 2" BDS springs they were $65 bucks a piece they flex good and they have a no questions asked warranty so if they sag or anything else BDS will exchange them for a new pair..:smokin: :smokin: :smokin: :smokin:
skinny 03-04-2002, 07:14 PM alcans need i say more:smokin:
High5 03-04-2002, 08:14 PM jc whitney 7leaf hd springs for the rear of a cj at all 4 corners. $69 per spring and they work great. flex nice too. plus they are military wrapped at both ends.
bigdude 03-05-2002, 04:19 AM I've looked at those CJ rears also.
I was under the impression that the RE springs had the reverse wrap on the spring eye (not sure if that's the correct term, but it's whem the spring wraps over the top instead of underneath at the eye)
I'm not a mechanical engineer so the benefits of this design change aren't obvious to me. I'm assuming that this helps to avoid sag and premature wear, in which case I like the idea.
I looked at Alcans too. I've ran them before SUA, a good spring but even more $$$ than RE which is already a little too much.
The HD 7 leaf CJ rears work well up front? Not too stiff? Are the spring clamps the style with bolts or are they the wrap around style that give you a hernia when you try to open them?
Thanks for the help

i don't open spring clamps anymore. i have tweeked too many as a result of doing that. it does help flex but it opens up new can's of worms. no they are not too stiff for the front of a cj. rear cj springs flex nicely when used int he front. i have run stock cj rears, yj rears , and now the jc whitney cj rears at all 4 corners on my jeep. the cj rears both stock and aftermarket are better for use in a spring over on a jeep. they last longer. the yjs tweek and sag easier.
Kendo 03-06-2002, 11:14 AM The RE's are nice and yes the eye is "reversed", that's why they call them SOA springs. Warranty isn't as good as BDS, but it's a quality product and probably won't have to be warrantied.
I run 2" YJ BDS springs on my CJ. I had to add a Rancho add-a-leaf to the rear pack and a small YJ leaf to keep them from "S"-ing on me. I have a wrap bar but the added weight of gear and a 150 quart cooler ruined 3 sets. As already said, they were replaced, no questions asked. I love the flex, but having to change them out after every run is a PITA. Since I added the add-a-leaf I have had no other probs, just gave up some flex by doing so. The fronts have worked awesome.
If I were doing it again, I would run the BDS up front and some 44044 (Rancho 2" Waggie's) out back. They are 2" longer than CJ's, but flex great (ask the Toyota guys) and that little extra length doesn't hurt either. You'll have to move the main mount forward or the shackle mount back though.
If you don't carry a lot of weight in the arse, I would just run the BDS 2" all the way around.
My $.02

I just got mine in the mail today. They are $74.99 each for HD 7 leaf CJ rears.
The picture below shows my 4" superlift spring on the bottom and the new ones on the top. Notice they are the same arch. Should easily get 1.5" of lift out of them.
Here are some stock waggy's......

Do you guys with the HD 7 leafs run them with the flat overload spring or without?

yes in the front, no in the rear. i have an anti wrap bar in the rear and it works fine without it. i started without it in the front but i put it back in because they wrapped a bit without it.
