I can shed a little bit of light on the motor front since I am going through it right now. I bout a used 350tbi for $600 and now am going to have it rebuilt, full long block for a grand. Yea I could have done it cheaper but the guy pulled the motor and computer and got me a 700r4 delivered to my house $850. As for the motor could have just thrown it in and run with it but wanted the peace of mind knowing we had a good strong motor when we hit the open road. Also these are Kalifornia prices and the machine shop came highly recommended since they normally build race motors. Hope that helps

There are a bunch of different HP rating on Chevy motors, just depends on vehicle, options, year.....
Prices on rebuilds also varies, depends on how fast you want to go, how much money you got???
With a 350 you option are almost endless, mild to wild....Parts are cheaper and plenty, probably the most popular and used engine.
Plan to spend anywhere from $400 to $600 for a used engine. That also depends on what it is, of course your gonna pay more for a Vortec or a LT1.
Rebuilds usually start around $600 for parts and machining..But there are tons of varables that can make that price increase cosiderably...
Best deal is buy a crate motor, brand new with a warrenty, starting at around $1200..Only draw back is if you don't have the accessories to mount on it, that can cost a fortune piece milling....

I bought my 350 out of a wrecking yard, paid about $450. It's been a good runner though it may be coming due for a rebuild, it's startin to burn a little oil.
If I was to do it again I'd go the "crate motor". I know a few people who have gone that route and they are as pleased as can be !
BTW mine came stock out of a 1973 Chevy Nova, I stripped it of all the smog and replaced the original carb with a big two barrel Rochestor with a pre-smog manifold out of a big GMC truck.
Horse power ? I have no idea but the beast runs like a striped-ass-ape up, down and all the time ! Got no complaints.

i got my engine for 600 running out of a '72 monte carlo w/ all the accesories..i could have bolted it in and driven it, but we decided to rebuild it with some bonuses (forged pistons, roller rockers, rebuilt heads, edelbrock manifold, balanced/blueprinted and soem other things)..total price for my engine was 2300 dollars...i know im going to hear, "you should have bought a 330 horse crate motor," and yes i agree, had i known it owuld have cost me that much, i would have gone straight to the crate motor, and gotten that warranty too:( dont think im going to have any problems w/ my motor though..:)
