: Fabbing new inner fenders?

I just got done narrowing the front of my truck.
What is going to be the easiest way to keep mud and water off the engine and fuse box?
I've searched and found cut inner tubes work well, but is making sheetmetal inners going to be the best way to go. Right now there is nothing on either side of my frame so i have plenty of room to work with. And of course i want to see lots of pictures.

Lets see some pics of what you did? I plan on narrowing mine. I was thinking I could cut down the stock inner fenders and hang mount them on the tubing I use.

Very cool. I've exoed the back and want to do the cab and front after I narrow it. This is what I've done to mine so far:

He's talking about narrowing the front....you shit doesnt relate.

btw, who bent up that rear hoop for you blown?

chambie....that was actually funny. nice one man.

as for the TOPIC...i think it might be easiest to buy some wheeltub's from jegs or summit. dont know how much you can tuck your tires in...with the front narrowed, you may not need the tubs. but after the tubs, just make some sheetmetal sides. I would then paint the inside of the fenders, i would do line-x if i had the cash, or herculiner if i didnt. Id imagine the thin sheetmetal on the tubs and sides would make alot of noise when you start kicking up rocks.

I'm making sheetmetal inner fenders for my FSB. Wheel tubs from the drag shops would be WAY too big. I picked up a 4' X 4' sheet of 20ga at the steel supplier and used poster board to make up a pattern. A little time with a cutter and a welder and it's done. I've still got about a third of that sheet left after making both fenders.

Wish I'd thought of using conduit or something, it would have come out better than screwing to the inner wall of the outer fender

Lars... are you going to do a write-up on you cab swap? Thats the exact same thing thnat I plan on doing.

Here are a few of my truck (http://offroadworld.tenmagazines.com/groundhawg/)

Not the prettiest thing...but it's all good. There are a few different angles of the front end there.

I'd like to mod some regular fenders to put on it just so it looks a little more normal...at least from the side anyway. If and when I get the fenders done, I'll leave the sheet there. It should work OK, maybe just need some trimming here and there.

I think I used 24 gauge sheet...it's been a while. I got in a hurry and didn't get it looking as good as it could have, but there are a few odd lines and different angles in the new doghouse that made it difficult to get a smooth sheet.

One tip, if you do use sheet metal, make sure you fasten the lower edge to something other than the frame. :shaking: I screwed it to the frame at first without thinking. It sounded like someone was smashing tin cans when the truck moved. :shaking: I used some 3/4" angle and spanned the gap and the sheet is bolted to that.

You can piss off too! I relate as that's my next mod. and the removal of sheet metal also relates. WTF are you running? :D

Plus he is doing the rear coils which is awesome...

So it seems sheetmetal is possible, but to those of you who have already made the sheetmetal inners, I was thinking about two different pieces per fender. One perpendicular to the ground and parallel to the frame, and one that would angle out from the top of that piece to my outer fenders.

I was thinking that this would eliminate some of the wrinkles that resulted in groundhawgs fenders.

Can anyone host my pics for me?

www.supermotors.org will host pics for you.

lars, the wheel tubs, i was going to cut them in half, so they were only a couple inches wide.

blown who bent up that rear hoop for your cage?

I'm going to try. I'm trying to take enough pictures to make it interesting. So far it's a pretty easy job, but I'm installing the cab this weekend so it may go all to hell :smokin:

In my situation, this wouldn't leave enough room under the hood to work around the engine, mount stuff on the fenders, etc. If you take a rectangular piece of metal and cut the cut the corners off one long side (square cuts, not diagonal), you can rejoin the cut edges to get nice angled sides with a flat top. It's hard to explain, I'll try to get some pictures up to make it clear. I may change my design once the new cab is in. The new sliders will make it easier to make tube fenders and I may do what you suggest instead (kinda Jeep-like).

move the battery, starter solonoid and fusebox to the back or in the cab if it isnt already(i cant see the pics cause my puter is fawked up) and put all the wiring inside except for the lights and winch and shit.

i got 5 michigan winters with no inners. and unknown tons of mud running through there from extraction missions to save my fuktard buddies.

that resulted in the maf getting unplugged a few times, cause the lock for the connector is non existant. i used some bailing wire to fix that cause i am a fawkin hillbilly...but it works. i still have my battery up front but it/they are hopefully going behind the jumpers or in the bed soon. your truck should already have the computer outside and in the center, my turd is a gen 1 with a 5.0, so i moved the harness under the dash with the puter in there and just the maf, egr, coil and engine harness connectors are comming through behind the engine like yours. works tits. plus i dont have the annoying heat build up from having fenderwells. of course the 4.0 usually dont have heat build up problems either.

guess i am saying you dont need em if you dont want em.
