Stumbled across this axel for $200 and thinking of putting it in a pre-superduty F-250 (1996 F-250 4x4 Crewcab). With the pumpkin being 3.5 in to the passenger side will there be any clearance/driveline issues? Would it be better to trade this axle for one that would just bolt in. It's not a big deal for me to move the spring pads out some. Thanks.

Supposedly you whack the crossmember with the 78 D60 unless you put in at least 6" of lift or severly limit uptravel.
Seems like you could swap with someone pretty easy. Good find, btw!

I would trade for bolt in axle or sell. Those axles can go for 1100 if in good shape, that is complete robbery at 200 bucks...good find.

Just brain storming, but couldn't a np205 be swapped in place of the bw1356 therefore eliminating the 3.5" offset pumpkin issue? Sounds like a trade would be the best.

putting a 205 can cause even more issues with driveshaft/exhuast/clutch intereference.
Something that a 70's axle in a 80's truck can allready create.(mine did)

i believe that only applies to the 1/2 tons.

I'll have to look under an F350 again. I thought they used the same crossmember, but it might only be on TTB rigs. My F250 leaf-sprung TTB definitely uses the big crossmember.

Plan would be SKY MFG shackle reversal kit and 2-3 inch springs. I'll have to check out my buddies F-350 and see what might work.

I was thinking about using a 78-79 Dana 44HD from a F250 (read cheap) for a SAS on my F250 (then swap a 78-79 60 in or a newer one). the pumpkin offset will be a problem... using a shackle reversal and some lift springs, I think it wouldn't be a big deal..

could you explain? 78 D60 and a NP205 or 78 D60 with current t-case?

There is going to be crossmember interference, but it would make your life a lot easier to just trade that axle for a 86-91ish front 60, that will bolt right in.

Although it wouldn't be too tough to fab up a new crossmember for it, welndmn probably has the best idea. The 78/79s are usually in higher demand so you shouldn't have any problem finding somebody to swap a later model for yours. Besides, if your planning on leaving the stock axles in you end up with stronger inners with the late models.

would you be willing to trade straight accross. My buddy bought a 91 d60 for his 77 f250 and didn't measure ahead of time? Mabey you could meet half way. Were about 4.5 hrs from Fallon. Must be nice being that close to Sand Mountain.

As mentioned, you would have a driveshaft issue. Moving the one spring pad is a pain, you have to move it out, but not enough to weld a complete new one on.

Also the 250 and 350 is the same crossmenber. The easiest way is to get the newer one and also swap with it the springs, steering and trac bar/mount.
