Tons of great info, this site is great.

I'm going to do the steering on my '69 and I've heard just a little mention of power assisted steering on EBs. does anyone have any info on this? Whats needed? Pics? At first I was going to save up for a kit, but would rather raid a boneyard. or I can get a 76 bronco box from kragen and a sig. I can't weld ... yet. Any body have any good suggestions?

Yeah I'm a newbie but my EB is fun.

'69, turquoise, hood bbl, hard top, 302, eddlebrock, hi-6, ignitor, k&n, 31's, mostly stock after that

What kind of wheeling are you going to be doing with this EB? Size of tires? I would just slap a 2wd F100 box in, or the F150 78-79 Box and rework the internals. Alot stonger and cheaper then a stock setup.

Most of the power steering boxs need a brace on the frame welded on, so find a friend with a welder!

the power assit from the early pick-ups are junk, don't worry about that. The F-100 box i the one that most bronce houses sell, its bar far the easist to install

I don't know how crazy you want to get or what shop capabilities you have, but here is another option to...well probably confuse you.

I had the F100 box and didn't like the long sector shaft and short drag link that it comes with. I considered the BC Bronco box where they swap the guts around in an F150 box. Its a good product but expensive. I really wanted the box on the outside of the frame and someone told me about using a Toyota IFS 4x4 box. It takes some fabing, but wasn't that difficult. The box can be bought from T. A. P. recycling in Rancho Cordova CA for $175.00 and it comes with the arm. I plated the frame all the way around with 3/8's steel, drill the holes using one existing hole(Front I think) and bought the unlimited performance tie rod/drag link set up (Not sure I would do that again...Hemis???). The steering geometry is excellent. The Tie Rod is over the knucke...just reemed them to 3/4".

Believe it or not the Toy box is very strong and has out performed everything I had previously. Cooler helped too. Also, if the box goes out...it is only $175.00 to fix. The Pressure hose was built at a hydro shop in west Sac. for $35.00 and I use a juiced up saginaw pump. I believe All Pro off road or one of the Toy web-sites now have an steering assit kit you can add for 38's. Too much info...sorry...Email me direct if you're interested.

PS...If you can find a 76-77 bronco box a Kragen...or anywhere for that matter...get ready to spend some big$$$. They are rare.:smokin: :D

I've got a f-100 and I'm going with the Toy steering. only thing left i have to do is get the pressure line made. I only paid $85 for the box. I'll do a search and add the link with phone number. I took the tre out of the pitman arm and added a pitman inset with a 3/4 inch whole. made a new drag link out of some DOM tubing and hiems. the F-100 frame is quite larger than the early broncs so you souldn't have to knotch the frame as I did (verry little at that). as far as getting the input shafts to work I got a shaft from a yota and it is the same diamiter as my truck (don't know about the EB's) a weld and a sleeve will handle that.

If you are using the Saginaw Pump, find an old pressure hose from a toy that fits the box...do the same for the end that fits pump and take it to West Sac...I am forgetting the shops name, but it is a very big shop and known in the Hydo world. Ask around. They can cut the ends off and fab you one up for cheap. I need a spare. I did the same on the arm...3/4" hole works with the hemi set up. Heads up...if you use the WH drop trac-bar bracket, you may have a clearance issue with it and the tie rod. Mine was touching when flexed. A little cutting and fabing and all was well. I think you'll like it and yes the box probably can be found cheaper. Definitely run a cooler...increases system life big time.

Hey thanx for all the great info. I checked with the local bone yard and they said I could get the f100 2x4 and the f150 4x4 boxes + lines etc., for about $300. However if that toy box is so great maybe I'll go that way. I'll call tomarrow to find out what the have to say. I will be learning to weld soon, and will probably have a welder(wire feed) by the end of the year.

Right now I have a power brake set-up I need to install. I bought a '76 bronco booster from autozone( it's a bendix) for $140, and painted it ford blue(I know Iknow...so what), and a bracket from Wild Horses. Hmm, interesting how the Duff bracket costs $125 and the W. H. was $150, with the name "DUFF" stamped on it.

We'll see how that goes.

Does that 300 include the F100 box, F150 4x4 box, and lines? Or just one of the boxes and lines? Because thats kind of high i think, i paid $69 for my 4x4 box off ebay, $96 after shipping, then found a late model box for the internals at a wrecking yard for $30. You can pick up a stock EB box off ebay for $300. Most the wrecking yards around here wanted $250 for the 4x4 box, they say its rare

No that was for both boxes. I live on CA central coast so all the wrecking yards charge an arm and a nut for stuff because there isn't much competition. It's rare that they even let you walk around the yard, much less pull anything your self. they pull the most common stuff and shelf it.

I'll check e-bay(I hate e-bay)
